Ocular surgery in patients with bleeding disorders is challenging due to the high risk of hemorrhagic complications. This case report a patient chronic decompensated liver disease, who presented incessant postoperative bleeding, served as forerunner for devising definitive preoperative, intraoperative, and protocols managing at our institute.
Precis: Inter-ocular comparison of primary angle closure glaucoma subjects with asymmetrical and symmetrical visual field loss, revealed significantly thinner central corneal thickness higher presenting intraocular pressure in the worse eye group. Purpose: To compare inter-ocular clinical biometric parameters angle-closure (PACG) visual-field loss at presentation. Patient Methods: Retrospective study which following data were extracted: (IOP), gonioscopy, mean deviation (MD), (CCT), anterior...
Purpose: To compare the safety and efficacy of Active Sentry handpiece with Ozil for Centurion phacoemulsification system. Setting: Tertiary eye center, South India. Design: Prospective observational study. Methods: 204 eyes patients uncomplicated cataract who underwent surgery Vision System were randomized into 2 groups: (n = 101) 103). Intraoperative factors such as patient pain perception, surgeon comfort level, amount energy aspiration fluid used, frequency activation active surge...
A 70-year-old man presented with blunt trauma to his pseudophacic eye, resulting in subconjunctival dislocation of the posterior chamber intra-ocular lens. This rare incidence traumatic pseudophacocele, occurring 5 years after cataract surgery and how its management salvaged useful vision is reported here.
Background: Iris root is the thinnest and weakest portion of iris stroma. It can detach easily due to blunt trauma or accidental engagement during intraocular surgery resulting in glare, photophobia monocular diplopia. Multiple techniques described for iridodialysis repair such as hang back technique, stroke dock technique sewing machine are technically challenging. Purpose: To describe an simplified approach using 9-0 prolene suture. Synopsis: We demonstrate animation better understanding....
A 55-year-old male presented to us with defective vision in the left eye (LE) for 6 months, associated a history of blunt trauma. On examination, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) 1/60 and cataract nuclear sclerosis grade 2 along anterior lens capsule (ALC) fibrosis was noted [Fig. 1a]. The patient advised femtosecond laser-assisted surgery (FLACS) (Alcon-LenSx Lasers Inc).Figure 1: (a) Slit lamp photograph using diffuse illumination eye. Nuclear traumatic thick were noted. (b)...
<title>Abstract</title> Purpose To assess the learning curve of MSICS in three different groups trainees with varying prior experience. evaluate effectiveness ICO OSCAR for objective assessment surgical skill transfer. Methods Ninety-five were divided into as 1st year resident, fellow and external trainee. Each group evaluated their acquisition during one month training program using ICO-OSCAR. trainee performed an average 19 surgeries. The progress was analyzed by evaluating mean scores...
Purpose: To evaluate higher order aberrations (HOA) in different types of posterior capsule opacification (PCO) and analyze its changes following Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy (LPC). Settings: Tertiary care ophthalmic hospital. Design: Prospective, comparative, observational study. Methods: One hundred ninety-three pseudophakic eyes with PCO were evaluated over 3 months. was classified into pearly, fibrous, mixed types. Their uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), corrected distance (CDVA),...
Purpose: To compare the slit-lamp method and wavefront aberrometry based on outcomes of toric realignment surgeries. Settings: Tertiary care ophthalmic hospital. Design: Retrospective study. Methods: This study included all eyes undergoing intraocular lens (TIOL) surgery between January 2019 December 2021 for which TIOL axis assessment by was available. Data were retrieved from electronic medical records, we documented demographics, uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), subjective refraction,...
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate trainee performance across six modules a virtual reality (VR) simulator. Methods: A retrospective observational conducted on 10 manual small-incision cataract surgery (MSICS) trainees who practiced an MSICS VR simulator for one month. They were assessed in major steps which included scleral groove, tunnel dissection, keratome entry, capsulorhexis, nucleus delivery, and intraocular lens (IOL) insertion under trainer’s supervision. information...
Aim: The aim is to study the correlation of macular thickness and sensitivity in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Materials Methods: A cross-sectional comparative was done on 77 eyes with diabetic retinopathy. Patients were divided into three groups as follows: Group 1 – Diabetic retinopathy without maculopathy, maculopathy clinically significant edema (CSME), 3 CSME. Microperimetry used assess sensitivity, optical coherence tomography (OCT) measure retinal thickness. Comparison between...
Economic evaluations of medical devices pose some inherent challenges such as the difficulty in conducting randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and additional evidence development post-launch. We developed a cost-effectiveness model to evaluate use LenSx® laser system for femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) compared phacoemulsification (PCS) medically necessary removal Canada. A decision analytic was designed determine quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) gained costs from...
We report an 18-year-old male patient with a progressive diminution of vision in both eyes. On examination, he had bilateral anterior lenticonus and sensorineural hearing loss. Slit–lamp examination finding the was confirmed by wave front aberrometry on i-Trace. A diagnosis Alport syndrome made. Normal corneal topography elevation maps high total eye aberrations pointed to internal optics as source predominant negative spherical aberrations. Uneventful phacoemulsification intraocular lens...
Iridocorneal Endothelial syndrome (ICE) is a rare unilateral progressive disease of unknown Etiology, predominantly occurring in middle aged females. It consists three overlapping disorders namely iris atrophy, Cogan Reese and Chandler's syndrome. Cogan-Reese characterised by diffuse naevus or pedunculated nodules. associated with corneal changes portraying "hammered silver" appearance. Iris are prominent atrophy. The management targeted to control edema secondary glaucoma. following report...
Background: Cataract surgeries are challenging in colobomatous eyes as they associated with features such microphthalmia, microcornea, zonular deficit, etc. These factors predispose to capsulorhexis extension, posterior capsular rent, dialysis and result unfavourable visual outcomes. The most critical step of cataract surgery cases is the chances extension high area. In presence pre-existing dehiscence, nucleus management becomes more advanced cataracts. Purpose: To illustrate efficient...
