Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients are at increased risk of respiratory related complications after cardiac surgery. It is unclear whether transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) or surgical (SAVR) results in favorable outcomes among COPD patients.
Little is known about homeless patients in intensive care units (ICUs).To compare clinical characteristics, treatments, and outcomes of to non-homeless admitted four ICUs a large inner-city academic hospital.63 randomly-selected compared 63 age-, sex-, admitting-ICU-matched patients.Compared matched non-homeless, (average age 48±12 years, 90% male, 87% by ambulance, 56% mechanically ventilated, average APACHE II 17) had similar comorbidities illness severity except for increased alcohol (70%...
We assessed the trend of palliative care (PC) referrals and its effect on hospitalization cost length stay (LOS) in ruptured aortic aneurysm (rAA). The Nationwide Inpatient Sample from 2005 to 2014 was used identify admissions with age ≥50 rAA. A total 54 134 rAA were identified 5019 (9.3%) had PC referrals. During study period, referral rate increased 0.97% 15.3% ( P < .0001). Length (1.7 vs 2.8 days, adjusted mean ratio [aMR] = 0.62, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.58-0.66), (US$7778...
Acute mitral regurgitation is a life-threatening complication of acute myocardial infarction. We present the case 70-year-old woman who had infarction complicated by severe and cardiogenic shock. Although current guidelines recommend valve surgery for such patients, often carries prohibitive risk morbidity mortality. Thus, in certain percutaneous repair may be only viable treatment option. In this case, we used 3-step approach involving coronary artery revascularization with drug-eluting...
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and surgical (SAVR) have become a reasonably safe procedure with acceptable morbidity mortality rate. However, little is known regarding the incidence, trends, predictors of palliative care (PC) consult in (AVR) patients. The main purpose this analysis was to assess PC consultation AVR recipients using Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) database. We queried NIS database from 2005 September 2015 identify those who underwent TAVR or SAVR had referral...
