Heart transplantation is life saving for patients with end-stage heart disease. However, a number of factors influence how well recipients and donor organs tolerate this procedure. The main objective study was to develop validate flexible risk model prediction survival after using the largest transplant registry in world. We developed flexible, non-linear artificial neural networks (IHTSA) classification regression tree comprehensively evaluate impact recipient-donor variables on over time....

A method to evaluate and recondition lungs ex vivo has been tested on donor that have rejected for transplantation. In the present paper, we compare early postoperative course between six patients who received reconditioned conventional during same period of time. During 2006 2007, a total 21 underwent double sequential lung transplantation at University Hospital Lund. Six those lungs. The other 15 without reconditioning vivo. results are presented as median interquartile range. Time in...

A 43-year-old man with congenital heart disease (patent ductus arteriosus and aortic stenosis) underwent leadless pacemaker (Medtronic Micra) implantation in September 2016. In 2007, valve replacement was complicated by complete A–V block requiring of a DDD-pacemaker. Over the subsequent 3 years, he developed progressive failure his course recurrent device-related infections. …

We studied the impact of radical pericardiectomy on early and long-term patient survival, postoperative New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class, left ventricular ejection fraction in patients with chronic constrictive pericarditis compared to a sub-total pericardiectomy. From 1991 2016, 41 underwent for pericarditis. Sub-total was performed 17 (41%) 24 (59%) patients. Patients two study groups had statistically similar NYHA fraction, cardiac catheterization data. Follow-up 100%...

Red blood cell deformability is essential for a normal microcirculation. The effect of extracorporeal circulation on red was evaluated with filtration technique in 25 patients undergoing open-heart surgery. During there significant decrease deformability, by average 31% (p less than 0.001). No correlation found between and duration the procedure. In subgroup patients, followed also postoperatively. first postoperative day further 17%. By second to third days, had decreased another 23%, so...

A major problem in clinical lung transplantation is the shortage of donor lungs. Only about 20% lungs are accepted for transplantation. We have recently reported results first six double transplantations performed with reconditioned ex vivo that had been deemed unsuitable by Scandiatransplant, Eurotransplant, and UK Transplant organizations because arterial oxygen pressure was less than 40 kPa. The three-month survival patients undergoing transplant these 100%. One patient died due to sepsis...

Following the Ross operation, pulmonary autografts tend to dilate over time. This study researches fate of autograft - at 4.5 years following modified operation with special reference impact modification on (a) dilatation, (b) neo-aortic root geometry, (c) valve function and (d) coronary artery reserve.A total 26 patients who underwent were included in this study; these, 13 consecutive a which free-standing was supported externally by Dacron vascular prosthetic jacket (DVPJ). A modification in Ross operation is described which the free-standing pulmonary autograft root suspended a Dacron prosthetic vascular jacket with view to prevent dilatation of neo-aortic root. In group 13 patients operated consecutively using this technique, there was no significant increase diameters after mean 16-month follow-up. Aortic valve function remained also satisfactory.

To prepare a highly immunized recipient for heart transplantation, reduction of high levels cytotoxic antibodies against human leukocyte antigen (HLA) was deemed essential to prevent antibody-mediated graft failure.Antibodies were analyzed by lymphocytotoxic and solid-phase assays. The pretransplant desensitization treatment protocol included daily tacrolimus mycophenolate mofetil, weekly protein-A immunoadsorption (IA), intravenous immunoglobulin, daclizumab. Posttransplant consisted...
