Abstract Chromium volatilization from the surface of Cr 2 O 3 pellets was investigated in atmospheres containing Ar–20%CO and –40%H at 600 – 800 °C. The measured fluxes Cr-loss were 6 orders magnitude higher than calculated based on conventional reaction: 1/2Cr 3(s) + 3/4O 2(g) H (g) = CrO (OH) considering both case that impurities thermal decomposition CO equilibrium. As detected after exposure to -containing environments, possible mechanism explain chromium phenomena is proposed as...

Based on the transport theory of multicomponent gas mixtures, we proposed an expression for determining standard volatilisation enthalpy and entropy chromia exposed to humidified oxygen at 298 K. The use this could lead quantification those thermodynamic quantities when mass flux Cr loss due is determined. We thus experimentally measured fluxes in atmospheres 873–1073 As a result, subjected K were quantified, giving values 61.1 ± 1.0 kJ mol−1 −43.0 1.9 J K−1 mol−1, respectively. calculated...
