The subsurface is a multifunctional natural resource. However, mindset of “out sight, out mind” and first-come-first-served principle are prevalent when accessing these resources, compromising fair intergenerational intragenerational distribution sustainable development. As with the ecosystem services (ES) concept, which acknowledges contribution living part nature to human well-being, concept geosystem (GS) has been suggested as way highlight abiotic provided by subsurface. overall aim this...

Stacked stromatoporoid‐dominated biostromes of the Ludlow‐age Hemse Group (Silurian) in eastern Gotland, Sweden, are 0·5–5 m thick and a few tens metres to >1 km lateral extent. They form one world's richest Palaeozoic stromatoporoid deposits. This study compiles published new data provide an overall facies model for these biostromes, which is assessed relation possible modern analogues. Some have predominantly in‐place fossils regarded as reefs, but lack rigid frameworks because abundant...

Anthropogenic geology (AG) is the study of geological materials and morphologies created, reshaped, or otherwise modified by humans human activity. Geologists surveys need to include anthropogenically created into their science discipline sustainably resource classify human-made deposits driven socioeconomic models rather than natural forces. Concepts coupled anthropogenic like circular economy, geosystem services, secondary resources, etc., are important features for implementation AG...

Abstract A study of the sedimentology and stromatoporoid morphologies in Upper Silurian southeastern Gotland reveals a strong relationship between depositional environment morphological range stromatoporoids. In high-energy environments, characterised by packstones grainstones, low-profile forms dominate, whereas calmer settings, wackestones packstones, high-profile stromatoporoids dominate. Four rock units are recognised, representing two major facies: Reef-like limestones Detrital...

Geosystem services (GS) can be defined as the contributions humans derive from subsurface: use of subsurface to build and construct within on top, groundwater, energy material extraction, storing e.g. water, carbon dioxide, providing habitats for diverse species support surface life, serving an archive cultural geological heritage. Sectorial management lack consequent consideration geosystem competing or complementary uses promote first-come-first-served principle, potentially hindering a...

Abstract Campanian sedimentary rocks of the Maltesholm quarry consist mostly coarse-grained, poorly consolidated, ruditic grainstones, almost free micrite and lime mud, with interbedded clay horizons. The main constituents grainstones are coralline algae quartz. Abundance lack indicate a shallow, nearshore, high-energy environment. Two different facies may be recognised, viz. fair weather rudists in abundance, storm pebble shell fragment conglomerates, scour fill structures, hummocky...

Abstract Cystihalysites sp. from the Ludfordian Eke Formation on Gotland, Sweden, is youngest halysitid coral found in Baltoscandia. Halysitids had earlier been considered as absent at this level and were thought to have disappeared Gorstian—lower Hemse Group. The new material indicates that least one species survived early parts of Lau extinction event.
