Fine particles emitted from vehicles have adverse health effects because of their sizes and chemical compositions. Therefore, this study attempted to characterize the metals in nano (0.010 < Dp 0.056 μm), ultrafine (Dp 0.1 fine 2.5 coarse (2.5 10 μm) collected near a busy road using micro-orifice uniform deposition impactor (MOUDI) Nano-MOUDI. The were found contain more traffic-related (Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, Ba, Ni) than other sizes, although crustal accounted for over 90% all particulate metals....

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) bound in nano/ultrafine particles from vehicle emissions may cause adverse health effects. However, little is known about the characteristics of nanoparticle-bound PAHs and PAH-associated carcinogenic potency/cytotoxicity; therefore, traffic-related were collected this study using a micro-orifice uniform deposition impactor (MOUDI) nano-MOUDI. For PM0.056−18, difference size-distribution particulate total-PAHs between non-after-rain after-rain samples...

This work investigated the vitrification of hazardous electroplating sludge containing 140 mg/g Cr with/without bottom ash or cullet conditioning to lower specimens' basicities 0.97−1.17 0.18−0.23, respectively. The was found enhance smooth/glassy appearance slags but no ingot obtained. >98% retained in vitrified slags. Cr2O3 dominated crystalline structure for slag from sludge, this domination gradually shifted Fe2SiO4/Fe3O4/SiO2 SiO2 with increasing addition into Compared raw...

Valuable metal materials can be recovered from spent nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. However, little attention has been paid to the compositions of individual components NiMH batteries, although this is important for selection appropriate recycling process. In study, batteries were manually disassembled identify and characterize metals in each these. A preliminary economic analysis was also conducted evaluate recovery valuable using thermal melting versus simple mechanical separation....

Only few studies have focused on organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in breast milk and the related health risks for women Taiwan. Our goal is to examine OCPs their associations with female reproductive function (infertility, gynecological diseases, menstruation characteristics) as well correlation sociodemographic parameters (age, pre-pregnant body mass index (BMI), annual incomes, population, birth year, parity) dietary habit. The samples were collected southern Taiwan (n = 68) from 2013 2016...

Previous studies have demonstrated that organochlorine pesticide (OCP) exposure has a negative impact on the neurological function of infants. Only few reports investigated thyroid and growth hormones their relationship to neurodevelopment after human OCPs, especially in case Our goal was determine whether breastmilk OCP residues were associated with impacts and/or alterations infants among specific southern Taiwanese mother–breastfed infant pairs. subjects (n = 55 pairs) recruited from...

This study explores the effects of an Asian dust storm (ADS) and Southeast biomass burning on composition atmospheric aerosols in coastal area southern Taiwan spring 2010. Coarse fine particles were collected using two manual dichotomous samplers (Dichots) that equipped with Teflon Quartz filters. The results reveal concentrations PM10 PM2.5 ADS period about twice those before after this. Abstract In this study, we investigated the transformation of hazardous residues, including fly ash, silica gel, bottom and sludge, from a laboratory waste incineration system at Sustainable Environment Research Center into compressed concrete paving units (CCPU). The raw ash was washed twice with water to remove Cl − . secondary (SWFA) then mixed sludge using various formulations designed through response surface methodology (RSM) in Design Expert 8.0.6 software. materials were subsequently...
