Building a community that is resilient to disasters has become one of the main goals disaster management. Communities are more often experience less impact from and reduced recovery periods afterwards. This study develops methodology for constructing set indicators measuring Community Disaster Resilience Index (CDRI) in terms human, social, economic, environmental, institutional factors. In this study, degree resilience natural was measured 229 local municipalities Korea, followed by an...

This study compared respondents' hurricane evacuation expectations with their actual behavior 2 years later during Hurricane Lili. Respondents were found to have accurate about information sources, transportation modes, number of vehicles taken, and shelter types. They also had generally the time it would take them implement some, but not all, preparation tasks. These results extend contemporary attitude–behavior models by demonstrating a significant degree correspondence between behavioral...

The U.S. Federal EmergencyManagement Agency requires jurisdictions to develop hazardmitigation plans (HMPs) be eligible for hazard mitigation grants based on the 2000 Disaster Mitigation Act. As of May 2007, over 14,000 local in US have developed single or multi-jurisdiction plans. However, little empirical research has examined quality HMPs. This study develops a comprehensive HMP assessment protocol and then assesses status twelve HMPs within Texas coastal management zone. components these...
