Geochemical, microbiological, and molecular analyses of alkaline saline groundwater at 2.8 kilometers depth in Archaean metabasalt revealed a microbial biome dominated by single phylotype affiliated with thermophilic sulfate reducers belonging to Firmicutes. These were sustained geologically produced hydrogen concentrations sufficient maintain activities for millions years no apparent reliance on photosynthetically derived substrates.

Abstract Past earthquake rupture models used to explain paleoseismic estimates of coastal subsidence during the great A.D. 1700 Cascadia have assumed a uniform slip distribution along megathrust. Here we infer heterogeneous for margin in that is analogous distributions instrumentally recorded subduction earthquakes worldwide. The assumption previous was due partly large uncertainties then available data constrain models. In this work, use more precise from detailed tidal microfossil studies....

Transmission electron microscopy study of pressureless sintered ZrB2–20 vol% SiC composites with WC (5–10 vol%) additions was carried out in this work. Two independent chemical reactions which the ZrO2 impurities were removed from ZrB2 grain surface confirmed. Three new formed phases, (W, Zr)ssB, (Zr, W)ssC, and Zr)ssSi2, apart plate-like grains, identified samples. Microstructure observations strongly suggest that liquid phases terms Zr)ssB appear system during sintering process below...

Arctic sea ice plays a crucial role in regulating the Earth’s energy budget, influencing marine productivity, and global thermohaline circulation. Its distribution also affects transport of sediment organic matter (OM) across Ocean. Lipid biomarkers are essential proxies for tracing OM central Arctic. However, their sources patterns spatial temporal variability during last glacial cycle remain poorly understood. To address these knowledge gaps, our study conducted multiproxy...
