Geochemical, microbiological, and molecular analyses of alkaline saline groundwater at 2.8 kilometers depth in Archaean metabasalt revealed a microbial biome dominated by single phylotype affiliated with thermophilic sulfate reducers belonging to Firmicutes. These were sustained geologically produced hydrogen concentrations sufficient maintain activities for millions years no apparent reliance on photosynthetically derived substrates.

Abstract Past earthquake rupture models used to explain paleoseismic estimates of coastal subsidence during the great A.D. 1700 Cascadia have assumed a uniform slip distribution along megathrust. Here we infer heterogeneous for margin in that is analogous distributions instrumentally recorded subduction earthquakes worldwide. The assumption previous was due partly large uncertainties then available data constrain models. In this work, use more precise from detailed tidal microfossil studies....

A ZrB 2 –SiC–ZrC composite was prepared from a mixture of zirconium, silicon, and B 4 C via reactive hot pressing at relatively low temperature (1800°C) for 60 min under 20 MPa in an argon atmosphere. The relative density 96.8%, the micro‐hardness (Hv10) 16.7 GPa, fracture toughness 5.1 MPa·m 1/2 . presence ZrC helpful densification process improved mechanical properties composite. model microstructure development proposed to explain phase distribution.
Transmission electron microscopy study of pressureless sintered ZrB2–20 vol% SiC composites with WC (5–10 vol%) additions was carried out in this work. Two independent chemical reactions which the ZrO2 impurities were removed from ZrB2 grain surface confirmed. Three new formed phases, (W, Zr)ssB, (Zr, W)ssC, and Zr)ssSi2, apart plate-like grains, identified samples. Microstructure observations strongly suggest that liquid phases terms Zr)ssB appear system during sintering process below...

Microbial communities responsible for methane cycling in mud volcanoes onshore are poorly characterized. This study analysed bubbling fluids and cored sediments retrieved from a volcano eastern Taiwan. The pore water profiles revealed that concentrations generally increased with depth changed dramatically at different intervals sites. were inversely correlated Fe(2+)/Mn(2+) δ(13)C values of methane, marking iron/manganese-methane transition zones the sediment cores. A ZrB 2 –SiC–ZrC ceramic was produced by reactive hot pressing using Zr, Si, and B 4 C as raw materials. The kinetics of the reaction process studied. reduction powders ball milling is crucial importance for sintering. self‐propagating high‐temperature synthesis between can be ignited controlling sintering conditions, which leads to a temperature low 1600°C, lowest reported thus far. relative density 97.3%, with an open porosity 0.6%, mechanical properties are comparable composites that...
Composites of ZrC – SiC with relative densities in excess 98% were prepared by reactive hot pressing and Si at temperature as low 1600°C. The reaction between resulted the formation 1− x , ZrSi . Low‐temperature densification − ceramics is attributed to formed nonstoichiometric Zr liquid phase. Adding 5 wt% three‐point bending strength 0.8 –13.4 vol% reached 819 ± 102 MPa hardness toughness being 20.5 GPa 3.3 MPa·m 1/2 respectively.
Arctic sea ice plays a crucial role in regulating the Earth’s energy budget, influencing marine productivity, and global thermohaline circulation. Its distribution also affects transport of sediment organic matter (OM) across Ocean. Lipid biomarkers are essential proxies for tracing OM central Arctic. However, their sources patterns spatial temporal variability during last glacial cycle remain poorly understood. To address these knowledge gaps, our study conducted multiproxy...
Abstract Adjustments in the metabolism of marine fish are associated with complexity resource availability, prey–predator relationships, and biotic abiotic interactions natural environment. To investigate relationship between body mass, this study used a conventional method to estimate oxygen consumption rate (reflecting resting metabolic rate) black porgy, Acanthopagrus schlegelii , over year rearing. In addition, we developed novel proxy using δ 13 C values vertebral structural carbonates...
