Abstract Members of the order Isochrysidales are unique among haptophyte lineages in being exclusive producers alkenones, long‐chain ketones that commonly used for paleotemperature reconstructions. Rationale Measurements of alkenone unsaturation ratios are widely used for paleotemperature reconstructions in ocean and lake environments.
