Technical literature on the subject of environmental exposure effects related to determining accelerated test methods for prediction long-term performance FRP composite materials highway structural applications is reviewed in this paper. Effects a chemical and thermal nature fiberreinforced polymer (FRP) composites are considered. Such exposures include temperature, moisture chemicals liquid solutions or gaseous mixtures. The changes physical mechanical properties materials. typically...

The question of relaxation time distributions in viscous liquids is examined by observing time-dependent behavior optically active elements the liquid structure, both intrinsic and otherwise, response to perturbations from equilibrium states. As a suitable medium for this study polyalcohol sorbitol C6H8(OH)6 adopted. Equilibrium intact broken hydrogen bonds pure have been determined using near IR spectra, loss of, re-establishment equilibrium, during down up temperature ramping processes,...

A potential candidate material for the construction of Mars habitats is concrete made from Martian regolith and sulfur extracted itself. Sulfur concrete, which has excellent mechanical properties, can be prepared at a low temperature (<150 °) without water (unlike Portland-cement concrete). The surface much higher concentration than those Earth, Moon, or asteroids. on Mars, however, exists not as elemental sulfur—which needed in production—but sulfates (usually hydrated) sulfides. This...

Research on fiber-reinforced plastic composites has explored the effects of selected aqueous environments mechanical and physical properties these composites. The composite materials tested were produced using pultrusion process. Resins included in study polyester vinylester. Fibers E-glass, carbon, aramid. Environments considered air, deionized water, acetic acid at two concentrations, ammonia concentrations. Temperatures room temperature, 50 80°C. Mechanical testing tension, flexure, short...

Measurements of levitation forces on melt-quenched and free sintered YBa 2 Cu 3 O x superconductors show that samples produce from 96-170% higher than specimens. The force increases are correlated with magnetization values for the material. Similar in magnetic stiffness were also measured. Vertical relaxation showed less 5% decrease one hour. These results have important favorable implications application to superconducting bearings.

The mechanisms that control the release of components nuclear waste glasses into aqueous environments and rates such depend to a large extent on contact time between glass particular volume water. At short times leach products does not significantly affect reactivity water toward glass, while at long times, as those expected in repository environments, saturation medium formation new solid phases are very important. development methodology based analysis flow test data identify controlling...

It is found that leach rates are enhanced by <50% in case alumina-free glasses, a factor 3 to 4 glasses contain 5 8% Al2O3, 20 100 SYNROC-D (20% A32O3). Leach studies carried out on barium-yttrium-copper oxides in water and 0.05 M KI have shown the selective occurrence of two processes, vic. leaching barium loss excess oxygen, e.g. through oxidation iodide. The extent these processes during early stages is much larger case open structures, tetragonal phase. Accordingly, aqueous media provides a sensitive convenient method structural characterization.
