Thymol (2-isopropyl-5-methylphenol) is the main monoterpene phenol found in thyme essential oil. This compound has revealed several biological properties, including antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. In this work, a comparison was made between performance of different green solvents (ethanol, limonene ethyl lactate), by pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) supercritical fluid (SFE) at conditions, to extract thymol from three varieties (Thymus vulgaris, Thymus zygis...

The use of biomass, particularly, a second-generation one, as renewable raw material is crucial to sustain the chemical industry. To favor development such processes, one needs make cost evaluation, which requires knowledge process thermodynamics and kinetics. In this paper, measurements different physicochemical properties (viscosity, density, refractive index, specific heat capacity) were done for systems: hydrogenation levulinic acid or its esters γ-valerolactone. From those measurements,...

In this study, sustainable technology microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) in association with green solvents was applied to recover phenolic compounds from spent coffee grounds (SCGs). A design of experiments (DOE) used for process optimization. Initially, a 24-1 two level Fractional Factorial Design and ratios "solvent solute" "ethanol water" were identified as the significant experimental factors. Consequently, Central Composite (CCD) analyze effects variables on response yield, total...
