The synchroton motion of a beam was tracked for the first time by digitizing phase signal from high bandwidth wall gap monitor relative to rf and momentum deviation with transverse position measurement in dispersion region. measured synchrotron tune as function amplitude agrees well theory. When stable angle modulated harmonically, response showed characteristics chaos bifurcations parametric resonant system. Manipulating system create islands space may offer applications future hadron...

Argument From 1924 to 1948, developmental psychologist Arnold Gesell regularly used photographic and motion picture technologies collect data on infant behavior. The film camera, he said, records behavior “in such coherent, authentic measurable detail that . the reaction patterns of child become almost as tangible tissue.” This essay places his faith in fidelity tangibility film, well use evidence, context psychology's professed need for legitimately scientific observational techniques. It...

The nonlinear beam dynamics of transverse betatron oscillations were studied experimentally at the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility cooler ring. Motion in one dimension was measured for tunes near third, fourth, fifth, and seventh integer resonances. This motion is described by coupling between modes field errors. Hamiltonian particle third- fourth-integer-resonance conditions has been deduced.

The nonlinear beam dynamics of transverse betatron oscillators were studied experimentally at the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility Cooler Ring. Particles kicked onto resonance islands and properties these studied. island tune was determined with high precision by Fourier analyzing spectrum containing oscillations. width estimated based on a single-resonance model. Hamiltonian particle motion near condition thus deduced.

We have observed viscous fingering flow in a Hele-Shaw cell, starting from carefully prepared initial state of fourteen almost identical fingers. As the progresses, killing off thirteen fingers on its way to single-finger steady state, several systematic effects stand out, including (1) characteristic trajectory for finger which depends not position ``starting gate'' but rather final ``race'' and, most importantly, (2) cascade reverse bifurcations, stages number competing is reduced,...

In 1959, a Danish anthropological expedition to Qatar created hundreds of photographs and 16-minute film depicting the diversity Qatari lifestyles, which included strong evidence Bedouin past, separate from merchant pearl-diving culture coast. However, Qatar's new national museum, still under development, has been working on different narrative: more unified identity that emphasizes similarities heritage rather than differences. Artifacts such as these photos can become inconvenient when...
