This paper studies oligopoly firms' dynamic pricing strategies in a gasoline market before and after the introduction of unique law that constrains firms to set price simultaneously only once per day. The observed behavior, both under law, is well captured by Edgeworth cycle equilibrium Maskin Tirole model. My results highlight importance commitment tacit collusion. I also find evidence leadership outcome better predicted mixed play than alternative hypotheses.

Exposure to particles with aerodynamic diameters less than 2.5 μm is estimated cause significant morbidity and mortality worldwide leading many countries develop ambient air pollution standards guidelines. At local scales, community environmental justice groups are also concerned about PM concentrations that may be elevated above regional typically measured by centrally located monitors as well. In an attempt a low cost, easy use monitor we evaluated low-cost optical particle counter, the...

The objective of this study was to determine if there is an exposure gradient in particulate matter concentrations for people living near interstate highways, and how far from the highway extends. Air samples were collected a residential area Greater Cincinnati vicinity two major highways. measurements conducted at different distances highways by using ultrafine particle counters (measurement range: 0.02–1 µm), optical (0.3–20 PM2.5 Harvard Impactors (0.02–2.5 µm). analyzed mass...

Two analytical methods were developed and refined for the detection quantitation of two groups endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in liquid matrixes pilot-scale municipal wastewater treatment plants. The targeted compounds are seven sex hormones (estradiol, ethinylestradiol, estrone, estriol, testosterone, progesterone, androstenedione), a group nonionic surfactants (nonylphenol polyethoxylates), their biodegradation byproducts nonylphenol ethoxylates with one, two, three ethoxylates....

Abstract This paper takes a first step toward understanding the working of online market for reviews. Most review firms rely on unpaid volunteers to write Can for-profit firm attract productive volunteer reviewers, limit number ranting or raving and marginalize fake reviewers? sheds light this issue by studying reviewer productivity restaurant ratings at Yelp, where reviewers are encouraged establish social image, two competing websites, completely anonymous. Using dataset nearly half...

Microplastics were extracted from freshwater sport fish stomachs containing substantial biomass and identified using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy plus energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) micro-spectroscopy with automated spectral mapping. An extraction method is presented that uses a negatively pressurized sieve stack purified water to preserve plastic surface characteristics any adsorbed persistent organic pollutants (POPs)....

This study focuses on the impact of wildfire smoke emissions regional, urban air quality during a event. We measured volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in San Francisco Bay Area to assess event compared them those later non-wildfire period. VOCs were collected using thermal desorption tubes quantified desorption-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (TD-GC/MS). Elevated concentrations such as 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene (0.33 ± 0.01 µg/m3), benzene (1.03 0.02...

Beta attenuation monitors (BAMs) are widely used for the regulatory monitoring of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and fence line industrial sites. The elemental analysis BAM filter tapes potentially could enable additional source PM2.5 attribution. However, chemical characterization glass fiber filters is hindered by high background metal values. A sample preparation method was developed using ultrasonic extraction from spots in nitric acid metals inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry...
