Six of the key physics measurements that will be made by LHCb experiment, concerning CP asymmetries and rare B decays, are discussed in detail. The "road map" towards precision is presented, including use control channels other techniques to understand performance detector with first data from LHC.

The LHCb VELO Upgrade I, currently being installed for the 2022 start of LHC Run 3, uses silicon microchannel coolers with internally circulating bi-phase \cotwo thermal control hybrid pixel modules operating in vacuum. This is largest scale application this technology to date. Production was completed July 2019 and assembly into cooling structures September 2021. paper describes R\&D path supporting production motivation design choices. have excellent peformance, low uniform mass, no...

The impurity content of synthetic calciumdifluoride (fluorite, CaF2) single crystals produced for optical applications in the deep ultraviolet (DUV) and infrared (IR) spectral regions are investigated by luminescence absorption spectroscopy. Lead, oxygen, rare earth (RE) ions, namely, trivalent (Ce3+, Pr3+, Sm3+, Eu3+, Gd3+, Tb3+, Dy3+, Ho3+, Er3+, Yb3+) divalent (Eu2+) identified as common impurities. Conduction band electrons, valence holes and subsequently self-trapped excitons (STEs) are created in CaF2 SrF2 by two-photon absorption of 5.9 eV photons. Transient after femtosecond pulse excitation is measured at probe wavelengths 3.0 4.4 eV, respectively. photons yields a fast initial response due to conduction while we sample the F centre part STE determine its formation time constant be 690 fs. We studied the decay of self-trapped excitons (STE's) in ${\mathrm{BaF}}_{2},$ ${\mathrm{SrF}}_{2},$ and ${\mathrm{CaF}}_{2}$ excited at room temperature by two-photon absorption femtosecond laser pulses recording time-resolved triplet-luminescence spectra. For ${\mathrm{BaF}}_{2}$ we detected significant spectral changes as a function time but this effect was much less pronounced for ${\mathrm{SrF}}_{2}$ barely to be identified ${\mathrm{CaF}}_{2}.$ A careful analysis data revealed two...
