As a result of COI barcoding over 200 reared specimens what appeared to be Cubus validus from northwestern Costa Rica, and matching them with their host caterpillars morphological traits, we describe eleven new sympatric species. All are endoparasitoids leaf-rolling Crambidae (Lepidoptera). The species, authored by Zúñiga, Valerio & Hanson, are: alanflemingi, C. christhompsoni, curtsabrowskyi, duvalierbricenoi, gracewoodae, jeffcummingi, jimoharai, johnstiremani, manuelzumbadoi,...
Introduction: Species of Mesochorus are found worldwide and members this genus primarily hyperparasitoids Ichneumonoidea Tachinidae.
Objectives: To describe species Costa Rican reared from caterpillars to a lesser extent Malaise-trapped. Methods: The diagnosed by COI mtDNA barcodes, morphological inspection, host data. A suite images data (plant, caterpillar, primary parasitoid) provided for each species.
Results: total 158 new Mesochorus. Sharkey is the taxonomic authority all....
As a consequence of COI barcoding hundreds reared specimens what appeared to be Leurus caeruliventris, parasitoid leaf-rolling Crambidae (Lepidoptera) from the Area de Conservación Guanacaste, northwestern Costa Rica, and matching them with their host caterpillars morphological traits, we describe ten new sympatric species redescribe L. caeruliventris. The species, authored by Zuñiga & Valerio, are: billeberhardi, henrytownesi, hugokonsi, iangauldi, jesusugaldei, marjorietownesae,...
A taxonomic revision of the genus Scolia Fabricius, 1775 (Hymenoptera: Scoliidae) from Central America is presented. Two species are present in America: S. (Discolia) guttata Burmeister, 1853 and (Hesperoscolia) rufiventris 1804, latter representing first record for Costa Rica, Panama Colombia. The male described illustrated time. Seasonal flight activity two years continuous Malaise trapping Barro Colorado Island, Panama, described.
As a result of continuing research on the ichneumonid wasps Costa Rica, two new species Epirhyssa (Rhyssinae) are described: E. leonoreae and lewisi. A key is provided for identification all 14 now known to occur in country.
