Deserts occupy one-third of the Earth's terrestrial surface and represent a potentially significant reservoir microbial biodiversity, yet majority desert microorganisms remain uncharacterized are seen as "microbial dark matter". Here, we introduce multi-omics strategy, culturomics-based metagenomics (CBM) that integrates large-scale cultivation, full-length 16S rRNA gene amplicon, shotgun metagenomic sequencing. The results showed CBM captured amount taxonomic functional diversity missed in...

The microbiome of the Sinai Desert farming system plays an important role in adaptive strategy growing crops a harsh, poly-extreme, desert environment. However, diversity and function microbial communities under this unfavorable moisture nutritional conditions have not yet been investigated. Based on culturomic metagenomic methods, we analyzed total fourteen rhizosphere soil samples (collected from twelve plants four farms desert), which may provide valuable meaningful guidance for design...

Psychrotrophic bacteria in raw milk are most well known for their spoilage potential and the economic losses they cause to dairy industry. Food-related psychrotrophic increasingly reported have antibiotic resistance features. The aim of this study was evaluate patterns Pseudomonas spp. isolated from bulk-tank milk. In total, we investigated susceptibility profiles 86 isolates All strains were tested against 15 antimicrobial agents. highly resistant imipenem (95.3%), followed by...

Two thermophilic bacterial strains, designated YIM 77925 T and 77777, were isolated from two hot springs, one in the Hydrothermal Explosion (Shuirebaozhaqu) area Frog Mouth Spring Tengchong county, Yunnan province, south-western China. The taxonomic positions of isolates investigated by a polyphasic approach. Cells strains Gram-stain-negative, aerobic rod-shaped. They able to grow at 50–70 °C, pH 6.0–8.0 with NaCl tolerance up 0.5 % (w/v). Colonies are circular, convex, non-transparent...

China is a hotspot for hot springs and during microbial diversity analysis of Tengchong spring, Yunnan province, south-west PR China, two strains designated SYSU G01001T SY-13 were isolated. Gram-stain-positive, motile spore-forming. Colonies white, circular, raised punctiform. grew at pH 6.0-9.0 (optimum 8.0) 23-37 °C 28 °C). The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between was 99.6 % but these shared low with Paenibacillus azotifigens (97.5 %) indicating that they represented novel species....

Three new norlimonoids (1−3), two tirucallane-type triterpenoids (4 and 5), a pimaradiene-type diterpenoid (6), along with known limonoids eight triterpenoids, were isolated from the leaves twigs of Toona ciliata. Their structures elucidated on basis spectroscopic data. Toonaciliatin M (6) showed moderate antifungal activity against Trichophyton rubrum an MIC 12.5 μg/mL.

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacterial strain, SYSU D60014 T , was isolated from a sandy soil sample collected the Gurbantunggut Desert in Xinjiang, PR China. Colonies of were pink-coloured, crystalline, irregular edge with rough surface. Phylogenetic analyses based on both 16S rRNA gene and whole-genome sequences assigned strain belonged to family Rhodospirillaceae formed distinct lineage showed 92.5–91.0% similarity closely related strains. Digital DNA–DNA hybridization,...

Five new diterpenes, trigonochinenes A−E (1−5), and two known ones, 3,4-seco-sonderianol (6) 3,4-seco-sonderianic acid (7), were isolated from the aerial part of Trigonostemon chinensis. Compounds 1−4 possess a rare 3,4-seco-cleistanthanic skeleton, compound 5 is highly aromatized tetranorditerpene. Structures these compounds elucidated by spectroscopic analysis. The antimicrobial activities 1−7 evaluated against panel bacteria fungi.

A novel pale orange-coloured bacterium, designated strain SYSU D00532 T , was isolated from sandy soil collected the Gurbantunggut desert in Xinjiang, PR China. Cells of were found to be aerobic, Gram-stain-negative, oxidase-positive, catalase-positive, motile and rod-shaped with a single polar or subpolar flagellum. Growth occurred at 15–45 °C (optimum, 28–37 °C, pH 5.0–8.0 6.0–7.0) 0–1.5% NaCl (w/v; optimum, 0.5 %). The major lipids consisted diphosphatidylglycerol,...
