The Ypresian Cambay Shale Formation at Vastan and Mangrol lignite mines in Gujarat, western India, has yielded a rich vertebrate fauna with numerous taxa of European affinities. Here we report new, approximately contemporary assemblage from two fossiliferous layers the nearby mine Tadkeshwar. These have similar mammal co-occurrence perissodactyl-like cambaytheriid Cambaytherium thewissi, adapoid primates Marcgodinotius indicus cf. Asiadapis cambayensis, hyaenodontid Indohyaenodon raoi....

The Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) is correlated with the first occurrences of earliest modern mammals in Northern Hemisphere. latest Paleocene Clarkforkian North American Land Mammal Age, that has yielded rodents and carnivorans, only exception to this rule. However, until now no pre-PETM localities have Europe or Asia. We report equivalent Age deposits basal Sparnacian facies at Rivecourt, north-central part Paris Basin. new terrestrial vertebrate macroflora assemblages are...

ABSTRACT A new eusuchian skull from the Maastrichtian locality of Oarda de Jos in southwestern Transylvanian Basin Romania represents best-preserved known specimen Allodaposuchus precedens Nopcsa, 1928. This fossil allows us to clearly characterize morphology A. and reject idea, as recently suggested, that taxon could be considered a nomen dubium. Parsimony analysis confirms earlier phylogenetic hypotheses based on fragmentary holotype Valioara Hat¸eg (Romania), well putative conspecific...

The early Eocene (Ypresian) Cambay Formation of Vastan Lignite Mine in Gujarat, western India, has produced a diverse assemblage snakes including at least ten species that belong to the Madtsoiidae, Palaeophiidae (Palaeophis and Pterosphenus), Boidae, several Caenophidia.Within latter taxon, Colubroidea are represented by Russellophis crassus sp.nov.(Russellophiidae) Procerophis sahnii gen.et sp.nov.Thaumastophis missiaeni sp.nov. is caenophidian uncertain family assignment. At two other...

The Cretaceous vertebrate assemblages of Romania are famous for geographically endemic dwarfed dinosaur taxa. We report the first complete egg clutches a dwarf lithostrotian titanosaur, from Toteşti, Romania, and its reproductive adaptation to "island effect".The were discovered in sequential sedimentary layers Maastrichtian Sânpetru Formation, Toteşti. occurrence 11 homogenous successive strata suggests philopatry by same species, which laid averaging four ∼12 cm diameters eggs. eggs...

The Ypresian Cambay Shale Formation of Vastan Lignite Mine in Gujarat, western India, has yielded a rich vertebrate fauna, including the earliest modern mammals Indian subcontinent. Here we describe its assemblage four frogs, two new genera and species, based on numerous, diverse well-preserved ilia vertebrae. An abundant frog, Eobarbourula delfinoi gen.and sp.nov., with particular vertebral articulation similar to zygosphene-zygantrum complex, represents oldest record Bombinatoridae might...

The early Paleogene is critical for understanding global biodiversity patterns in modern ecosystems. During this interval, Southern Hemisphere continents were largely characterized by isolation and faunal endemism following the breakup of Gondwana. Africa has been proposed as an important source area origin several marine vertebrate groups but its record poorly sampled, especially from sub-Saharan Africa. To document ecosystems Central Africa, we revised stratigraphic context sedimentary...

The anatomy of Cambaytherium, a primitive, perissodactyl-like mammal from the lower Eocene Cambay Shale Formation Gujarat, India, is described in detail on basis more than 350 specimens that represent almost entire dentition and skeleton. Cambaytherium combines plesiomorphic traits typical archaic ungulates such as phenacodontids with derived characteristic early perissodactyls. was subcursorial animal better adapted for running but less specialized cheek teeth are bunodont large upper molar...

This taxon, with an age 56 Myr, together indeterminate material reported Silveirinha (Portugal, MP represent oldest Cenozoic gekkotans known Europe. Morphometric characters of fossil leaves such as size and shape are important widely used sources for reconstructing palaeoenvironments.Various tools, including CLAMP or Leaf Margin Analysis, utilize leaf traits input parameters estimating palaeoclimate, mostly based on correlations between climate extant plants.During the last few years, scope information extracted from morphology has been further expanded by economics, which describe functional ecological strategies. The amount quality...

The Quercy Phosphorites Formation in France is world famous for its Eocene to Miocene faunas, especially those from the upper lower Oligocene, richest of all. latter particularly helped understand ‘Grande Coupure’, a dramatic faunal turnover event that occurred Europe during Eocene-Oligocene transition.
