ABSTRACT Cell adhesion and several other properties of a recently identified cadherin-related protein, protocadherin Pcdh2, were characterized. A chimeric Pcdh2 in which the original cytoplasmic domain was replaced with E-cadherin expressed mouse L cells. The protein had molecular mass about 150 kDa localized predominantly at cell periphery, as wild-type Pcdh2. In conventional aggregation assay, transfectants showed activity comparable to that classical cadherins. This Ca2+-dependent...

ABSTRACT Several properties of cadherin-4 and cadherin-5 were char- acterized by using the cDNA transfection approach. The proteins both cadherins had a relative molecular mass about 130 kDa present at cell periphery, especially cell-cell contact sites. These easily digested with trypsin, Ca2+ protected cadherin- 4, but not cadherin-5, from digestion. In immunopre- cipitation, co-precipitated two major 105 95 kDa, respectively. are likely to correspond α- β-catenins. Cadherin-5 only one...

AbstractTo study the diversity of protocadherins, a rat brain cDNA library was screened using for cytoplasmic domain human protocadherin Pcdh2 as probe. The resultant clones contained three different types. One type corresponds to Pcdh2; other two types are distinct from but contain same sequence in their domains and part 3′ flanking sequence. To clarify structure proteins defined by new clones, putative entire coding corresponding one determined. overall is essentially Pcdh2, indicating...

Abstract The newt, a group of urodele amphibians, has outstanding ability to repeatedly regenerate various body parts, even in the terrestrial life-stage. In this animal, when limb is amputated, cell mass named blastema appears on stump and eventually gives rise new functional limb. Erythrocytes (red blood cells) most non-mammalian vertebrates, including preserve their nucleus throughout life-span, although physiological roles such nucleated erythrocytes, other than oxygen delivery, are not...

The role of p120-catenin in the function classical cadherins is still enigmatic despite various studies. To elucidate its role, we examined effect on N-cadherin-mediated localization junctional proteins epithelial cells this study. Cadherin-deficient MIA PaCa-2 did not show linear tight junction ZO-1 and occludin. When N-cadherin was expressed these cells, however, resultant transfectant revealed strong cell adhesion activity ZO-1, occludin, lateral membrane. p120-catenin-binding site...

Daptomycin (DAP) is one of the most potent antibiotics used for treatment methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections. Due to an increase in its administration combating MRSA infections, DAP non-susceptible (DAP-NS) strains have recently been reported clinical settings. The presence single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) multiple peptide resistance factor ( mprF ) gene frequently cause evolution DAP-NS strains; however, there are some variations SNPs that could lead DAP-NS....

The G protein messages in Octopus vulgaris photoreceptor were isolated and characterized with molecular biological techniques. Four classes of α subunit cDNA from an octopus eye library: OvGαi, OvGαo, OvGαq OvGαs. Northern blot analysis tissues showed abundant expression the eye, specific OvGαo neural tissues. OvGαi was expressed all studied. In situ hybridization revealed that message almost cells. Based on these results, a possible phototransduction pathway visual cells is discussed.
