Using a free-space configuration and frequency-domain detection setup, group velocities of electromagnetic waves in distributed Bragg reflector are investigated. Experimental data indicate that, near the regions minimal transmission our configuration, velocity is 2.1 times faster than speed light vacuum. A model based on diagonalization transfer matrix used to compare experimental theoretical calculations, good agreement obtained. An overview uncertainties their effects measured quantities provided.

We present theoretical modeling and experimental validation of both capacitive (dot) inductive (hole) metallic crossed gratings in the mid-infrared (2-5 microm). Transmission measurements of a barium ferrite pressed-powder sample have been made with an optically switched picosecond-pulse spectrometer. By comparison to millimeter-wave spectroscopy the same sample, features related ferrimagnetic resonance identified in pulse spectrum.
