The present study investigated the antioxidant enzyme activities (AEA) of ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT), guaiacol (GPX), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) as biomarkers Cu Pb stress by using Centella asiatica grown in an experimental hydroponic condition. results showed (i) higher accumulations roots C. than those leaves, (ii) synergistic effects at metal-level exposures, (iii) triggered increment APX, CAT, GPX, SOD levels both leaves asiatica. four AEA indicated that underwent...

Human health risk and phytoremediation of potentially toxic metals (PTMs) in the edible vegetables have been widely discussed recently. This study aimed to determine concentrations four PTMs, namely Cd, Fe, Ni, Zn) Amaranthus viridis (leaves, stems, roots) collected from 11 sampling sites Peninsular Malaysia assess their human (HHR). In general, metal levels followed order: roots > stems leaves. The (µg/g) leaves A. ranged 0.45 2.18 dry weight (dw) (0.05−0.26 wet (ww)), 74.8 535 dw...

Human activities due to different land uses are being studied widely in many countries. This study aimed determine the ecological risks and human health risk assessments (HHRA) of Cd, Pb, Ni, Cu, Zn topsoils six Peninsular Malaysia. The ranges potentially toxic metals (PTMs) soils (mg/kg, dry weight) this were 0.24-12.43 for Cd (mean: 1.94), 4.66-2363 Cu 228), 2576-116,344 Fe 32,618), 2.38-75.67 Ni 16.04), 7.22-969 Pb 115) 11.03-3820 512). SUMMARY Two experiments to investigate the micronutrient requirements of cassava (cv Black Twig) on Malaysian peat soil are described. Cu was found be only essential and Mn, Zn, Fe, Mo B were not needed. Fertilizing with 20 kg/ha copper sulphate approximately tripled tuber dry matter, starch uptake, but applying 10 gave same results. Each crop absorbed about 2% applied Cu, giving a leaf content 14 ppm compared 7 in Cu-deficient plants. deficiency symptoms invariably observed plots these also

This study aimed to analyse ten trace metal concentrations in the edible part of freshwater clam Corbicula javanica and provide a critical assessment potential risks human health through consumption this as food based on well-established indices safety guidelines. The clams were captured from pristine original site transplanted other sites with different environmental qualities. levels total soft tissue (TST) below those guidelines referred except for Pb, which exceeded permissible limit set...

SUMMARY In three field experiments studying the liming needs of cassava on peat, optimum tuber DM was obtained at pH 3.8 and top 4.2; to higher values decreased while maintaining DM. Consequently, Harvest Index over whole range soil studied (3.49–5.50). Increases in per hectare with liming, an increasing growth period, were associated mean weight ( r = 0.86) 0.65) rather than number 0.37).

The invasive weed Asystasia gangetica was investigated for its potential as a biomonitor and phytoremediator of potentially toxic metals (PTMs) (Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn) in Peninsular Malaysia owing to ecological resistance towards unfavourable environments. biomonitoring PTMs determined based on the correlation analysis different parts plant (leaves, stems, roots) habitat topsoils. In roots, concentrations (mg/kg dry weight) Cd, Zn ranged from 0.03 2.18, 9.22 139, 0.63 5.47, 2.43 10.5, 50.7 300,...

SUMMARY In a three-year field experiment on acid peat (pH 3.47) up to 12 t/ha lime increased pH (0–30 cm depth) by 0.061/t. Annual guinea grass dry matter in quadratic relation with liming 4.20 (12 lime) but there was no difference between the cvs Sigor and Colonoa. Liming decreased N, P K, Ca Mg contents of harvested grass. also uptake all five nutrients investigated, either linearly or curvilinearly.

SUMMARY On unlimed Malaysian peat (pH 3.5), flue-cured tobacco produced negligible leaf yields and showed no response to urea. Liming up pH 5.25 (32 t/ha lime) linearly increased yield. Tobacco responded without reduced quality 90 k/ha N at 4.01 (8 lime), but 45 kg/ha 4.40–5.25 (16–32 higher rates the respective liming levels producing leaves of lower quality. The optimum P K for appeared be 26 186 respectively, with linear responses those rates.
