There is limited data on medication regimen complexity outcomes in patients with kidney failure receiving hemodialysis (HD) different settings. This study aims to quantify and assess its impact patient-related clinical facility-based home-based HD-treated patients. targeted undergoing HD at a large metropolitan dialysis center Australia. Baseline hospitalizations were recorded through retrospective audit of electronic medical records, while other outcome collected prospectively. Medication...
A 36-years-old man on phenytoin, levetiracetam, and sodium valproate presented with acute confusion. Routine investigations including serum phenytoin concentration were normal. His ammonia was raised. held 2 days later he recovered concordant normalisation of concentration. Urea acid cycle disorder ruled out, a diagnosis induced hyperammonemic encephalopathy (VHE) made. Asymptomatic hyperammonemia occurs in 15-50% valproate-treated patients, while the true incidence VHE is not known, it...
The inflammatory myopathies are a group of immune‐mediated muscle disorders that typically present with marked proximal weakness. We report four cases subcutaneous oedema as their main complaint. Three the patients had normal or low levels creatine kinase, an enzyme often markedly elevated in these disorders. Magnetic resonance imaging muscles, followed by biopsy were used to make definitive diagnosis.
People with kidney failure face a multitude of psychosocial stressors that affect disease trajectory and health outcomes. To investigate factors affecting people before or at start replacement therapy (KRT) supportive palliative care (KSPC) phases illness to explore role social worker during the trajectory. We conducted secondary data audit patients either KRT (Phase 1) KSPC 2) had assessments between March 2012 2020 in an Australian setting.Seventy-nine individuals, aged 70 ± 12 years, least...
Although patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) typically have complex treatment needs, the effect of medication regimen complexity on patient outcomes has not been thoroughly evaluated. This study aims to quantify and evaluate patient-centred including adherence its determinants in PD.
Abstract Background End-stage kidney disease (ESKD) incidence has been increasing over time, contributing significantly to morbidity and early mortality. However, there is limited data examining the psychosocial factors affecting people with ESKD how social worker fits within multidisciplinary CKD care. This integrative systematic review aims summarise existing evidence on determinants of outcomes in role renal worker. Method: Literature search was conducted using PubMed MEDLINE targeting...
Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is known to cause vascular complications including stenotic and aneurysmal disease. Here, we report a case of woman in her early 20s, who presented with unilateral facial nerve palsy hypertensive crisis, was later found have multiple bilateral intrarenal microaneurysms along classic cutaneous manifestations NF1. A causal relationship between the pathophysiology NF1 development renal artery microaneurysm hypertension proposed this report.
Background: Hypertension has a worldwide prevalence of 31% and contributes markedly to death from stroke coronary heart disease.Up 10% hypertensive patients have secondary hypertension; an even higher is present amongst below the age 30.The two commonest causes hypertension, primary aldosteronism renovascular disease, may both with metabolic alkalosis and/ or hypokalaemia. While conditions are associated raised plasma aldosterone, renin concentration low in high giving rise characteristically...
