Information about the long-term clinical survival of large amalgam and composite restorations is still lacking. This retrospective study compares longevity three- four-/five-surface relative to patients’ caries risk. Patient records from a general practice were used for data collection. We evaluated 1949 class II (1202 amalgam/747 composite). Dates placement, replacement, failure recorded, risk patients was assessed. Survival calculated Kaplan-Meier statistics. After 12 years, 293 114 had...

The FDI criteria for the evaluation of direct and indirect dental restorations were first published in 2007 updated 2010. Meanwhile, their scientific use increased steadily, but several questions from users justified some clarification improvement living document. An expert panel (N = 10) initiated revision consensus process that included a kick-off workshop multiple online meetings by using Delphi method. During after each round discussion, all opinions collected, aggregated summary was...

Objective: Secondary caries lesions adjacent to restorations, a leading cause of restoration failure, require accurate diagnostic methods ensure an optimal treatment outcome. Traditional strategies rely on visual inspection complemented by radiographs. Recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly deep learning, provide potential improvements detection. This study aimed develop convolutional neural network (CNN)-based algorithm for detecting primary and secondary around...

Aim of this prospective study was to assess full mouth rehabilitation severe tooth wear patients using minimally invasive CAD/CAM resin-based composite (RBC) restorations and direct veneers by evaluating restoration survival up 5.5-years. Twenty-two with generalized functional and/or esthetic problems were included. Following preparation, RBC (LAVA Ultimate,3M) adhesively luted, (Filtek Supreme XTE, 3M) applied in the aesthetic region. Patients recalled after 1m,1y,3y,5y seen between recalls...

In search for clinically effective composite repair protocols, the effect of various etching protocols on surface roughness resins with different filler composition were investigated.Of two (hybrid-filled Clearfil AP-X; nano-filled Filtek Supreme XT) specimens 3mm thick a diameter 7 mm prepared (n=24). The top was polished 4000-grit SiC-abrasive paper and subjected to one eight treatments: (n=3): negative control (NC), 37% phosphoric acid 20s (37PA-20s), 3% hydrofluoric (3HF-20s), 120 s...

Abstract Biomaterials are being applied in increasingly complex areas such as tissue engineering, bioprinting, and regenerative medicine. For these applications, challenging—or even contradictory—combinations of biomaterial properties often required which cannot be met by conventional biomaterials. During the past decade, several new concepts have been developed to render biomaterials self‐healing, thereby offering opportunities improve functionality traditional terms their mechanical,...

To evaluate the 5.5-year performance of direct resin composite restorations, prescribed for patients with severe tooth wear, requiring full-mouth rehabilitation.A convenience sample 34 were recruited to a prospective trial between December 2010 and June 2013. The participants provided 1269 restorations (Clearfil AP-X) by 5 experienced operators, using DSO-technique. Treatment resulted in an increase vertical dimension occlusion (VDO). Failure was assessed at three levels. Frequencies failure...

Although we are increasingly recognising the need to assess patients for accelerated rates of tooth wear progression, it is often difficult do so within a feasible diagnostic window. This paper aims provide evidence-based timelines which diagnosing clinician can expect progression in study models, clinical indices, photographs and visually with intraoral scans. It also discusses new technologies emerging quantitative assessment wear, diagnosis, caveats 3D scan registration analysis process.
