Abstract In this paper, the mechanical properties and microstructures of AISI4140 low alloy steel under different tempering conditions are investigated. The samples quenched, tempered to a martensite structure loaded fracture by means Charpy machine according standard test. Fractography analysis showed that morphology surface was changed increasing temperature. variation energy impact as function temperature exhibits minimum values at 300 °C, which suggests occurrence temper embrittlement.
