The use of superstitious behavior (SB) in sport is a widespread phenomenon and has become increasingly popular at an elite level. SB been defined as which does not have clear techn...
We present a general construction of divergence-free knotted vector fields from complex scalar fields, whose closed field lines encode many kinds knots and links, including torus knots, their cables, the figure-8 knot, its generalizations. As finite-energy physical they represent initial states for such as magnetic in plasma, or vorticity fluid. give systematic procedure calculating potential, starting functions with zero filaments, thus enabling an explicit computation helicity these...
We give an explicit construction of complex maps whose nodal line have the form lemniscate knots. review properties knots, defined as closures braids where all strands follow same transverse (1, $\ell$) Lissajous figure, and are therefore a subfamily spiral knots generalising torus then prove that such exist in fact fibrations with appropriate choices parameters. describe how this may be useful physics for creating knotted fields, quantum mechanics, optics to rational application...
When spin-polarized electrons flow through a magnetic texture transfer torque is generated. We examine the effect of this on skyrmions and skyrmion bags, skyrmionic structures arbitrary integer topological degree, in thin ferromagnetic films. Using micromagnetic simulations analysis from well-known Thiele equation, we explore potential for sorting or binning varying degrees mechanically. investigate applicability equation to problems nature derive theory deflection ordered by degree. show...
This paper is concerned with the dynamics and interactions of Q-balls in (1+1)-dimensions. The asymptotic force between well-separated calculated to show that can be attractive or repulsive depending upon their relative internal phase. An integrable model exact multi-Q-ball solutions investigated found use explaining non-integrable theories. In particular, it demonstrated small a generic class models tends towards as charge decreases. Long-lived oscillations single Q-ball also understood...
Classically spinning B=1 Skyrmions can be regarded as approximations to nucleons with quantised spin. Here, we investigate nucleon-nucleon scattering through numerical collisions of Skyrmions. We identify the dineutron/diproton and dibaryon short-lived resonance states, also stable deuteron state. Our simulations lead predictions for polarisation states occurring in right angle scattering. Videos our results are shown at http://www.bristoltheory.org/people/david.foster/skyrmevideos/.
In this paper, we present a detailed study of Skyrmion-Skyrmion scattering for two $B=1$ Skyrmions in the attractive channel where observe different regimes. For large separation, can be approximated as interacting dipoles. We give qualitative estimate when approximation breaks down. small separations an additional short-range repulsion which is qualitatively similar to monopole scattering. also interesting effect "rotation without rotating" whereby Skyrmions, whose orientations remain...
The Skyrme-Faddeev model is a (3+1)-dimensional which has knotted, string-like, soliton solutions. In this paper we investigate with an SO(3) symmetry breaking potential. We then rescale and take the mass to infinity. This infinite found have compact knotted all of investigated massive models find similar charged solutions as in usual, m=0, model. also that their energies follow power growth m=0
Recent results suggest that multi-Skyrmions stabilized by $\ensuremath{\omega}$ mesons have very similar properties to those the Skyrme term. In this paper we present of a detailed numerical investigation $(2+1)$-dimensional analogue situation. Namely, compute solitons in an $O(3)$ $\ensuremath{\sigma}$ model coupled massive vector meson and compare baby Skyrmions, which are including We find multisolitons surprisingly model, explain correspondence using simple derivative expansion.
Previous results on multi-charged Baby Skyrmion solutions have pointed to a modular structure, comprised of charge two rings and single one Skyrmions, which combine form higher charged structures. In this paper we present numerical evidence shows an alternative finite chain, global energy minimum Skymion solution. We then proceed from the infinite plane, Skyrmions cylinder torus, obtain periodic segments will correspond sections large in plane.
Skyrmions are particle-like topological excitations, studied in various condensed matter systems and models of high-energy physics (HEP). They occur as stable spin textures certain planar magnetic materials configurations chiral nematic liquid crystals, having been originally proposed model atomic nuclei. Since can be accelerated with a current, they have the potential to encode bits low-power storage devices. Drawing on techniques from HEP, we demonstrate that crystal interact like...
Solitons in the Skyrme-Faddeev model on R^2xS^1 are shown to undergo buckling transitions as circumference of S^1 is varied. These results support a recent conjecture that solitons this field theory well-described by much simpler elastic rods.
Two recently found coupled BPS submodels of the Skyrme model are further analyzed. Firstly, we provide a geometrical formulation in terms eigenvalues strain tensor. Secondly, study their thermodynamical properties and show that mean-field equations state coincide at high pressure read $p=\bar{\rho}/3$. We also evidence matter described by first submodel has some similarity with Bose-Einstein condensate. Moreover, extending second to non-BPS including certain additional full does not spoil...
It is understood that the Skyrme model has a topologically interesting baryonic excitation which can nuclei. So far no stable knotted solutions, of model, have been found. Here we investigate dynamics Hopf solitons decaying to vacuum solution in model. In doing this develop matrix-free numerical method identify minimum eigenvalue Hessian corresponding energy functional. We also show as decay, they emit cloud isospinning radiation.
Hyper-redundant manipulators offer the ability to move within physically constrained spaces, which can be of particular benefit; e.g. inspection and maintenance in hazardous or otherwise hard-to-access environments. However, being comprised several links joined end-to-end, they exhibit rather complex kinematics, low values flexural stiffness fundamental natural frequency, high internal forces, friction backlash. For these reasons, it difficult obtain rapid, accurate robust control their...
Abstract Von Karman’s similarity hypothesis for the turbulent mixing length in boundary layer type flow is extrapolated to a plausable two dimensional expression. The corresponding incompressible equations are developed terms of transient vorticity transfer and stream function equations. Numerical solutions separated behind step rectangular cavity were obtained results presented pictorally. streamlines computed solution compare favorably with those calculated from experimental measurements...
