The authors show that spatial dependence and heterogeneity matter in the estimation of β-convergence process among 138 European regions over 1980 to 1995 period. Using econometrics tools, detect both form structural instability across convergence clubs. appropriate regimes error model shows is different regimes. also estimate a strongly significant spillover effect: average growth rate per capita GDP given region positively affected by neighboring regions.

The purpose of this article is to study the evolution GDP disparities among 138 European regions over period from 1980 1995. Regional per capitaGDPcross-sectional distribution characterized by means nonparametric estimations density functions, and growth process modeled as a first-order stationary Markov chain. Spatial effects are then introduced within chain framework using regional conditioning spatial chains. results analysis indicate persistence disparities, progressive bias toward...

Abstract This paper investigates the sensitivity of hedonic models house prices to spatial interpolation measures air quality. We consider three aspects this question: technique used, inclusion quality as a continuous vs discrete variable in model, and estimation method. Using sample 115,732 individual sales for 1999 South Coast Air Quality Management District Southern California, we compare Thiessen polygons, inverse distance weighting, Kriging splines carry out point ozone obtained at 27...

We estimate a hedonic equation for each city on individual data apartments, allowing heteroscedasticity and spatial error autocorrelation of unknown forms using large variety structural contextual characteristics apartments. show that density puts upward pressure Lyon, Montpellier, Paris, whereas it has no significant effect other cities. The aim of this paper is to analyze the intraurban spatial distributions population and employment in agglomeration Dijon (regional capital Burgundy, France). We study whether has followed general tendency job decentralization observed most urban areas or it still characterized by a monocentric pattern. To that purpose, we use sample 136 observations at communal IRIS (infraurban statistical area) levels with 1999 census data database SIRENE (INSEE). First, pattern total density using...

Abstract. In this paper, we suggest a framework that allows testing simultaneously for temporal heterogeneity, spatial and autocorrelation in β-convergence models. Based on sample of 145 European regions over the 1980–1999 period, estimate Seemingly Unrelated Regression Model with regimes two sub-periods: 1980–1989 1989–1999. Abstract The regional economic convergence/divergence issue has been discussed extensively recently, but results obtained are not always interpretable unequivocally as a consequence of the different estimation strategies used. As it is widely recognized, most common theoretical framework applied to measure speed convergence among countries or regions remains β-convergence approach, linked neoclassical Solow model. There have many attempts consider variations basic cross-sectional...
