Knowledge on biodiversity is fundamental for conservation strategies. The Brazilian Pampa region, located in subtropical southern Brazil, neglected terms of conservation, and knowledge its fragmented. We aim to answer the question: how many, which, species occur Pampa? In a collaborative effort, we built lists plants, animals, bacteria, fungi that Pampa. included information distribution patterns, main habitat types, status. Our study resulted referenced totaling 12,503 (12,854 taxa, when...

The experiment was conducted throughout the year 2005, at Universidade Federal de Pelotas campus. objectives of study were to analyze decomposition rabbit (Oryctolagus cunniculus L.) with mean weight 2.67 Kg carcass and describe interaction insects acting on it, as well insect's potential use in legal medicine. We collected 5.239 insect specimens; 1.827 them obtained from larvae carcasses reared. specimens identified 20 species forensic importance. Lucilia eximia (Wiedemann, 1819) Chrysomya...

A taxonomic revision of the Amazonian species Ropalomera Wiedemann, 1824 (Diptera: Ropalomeridae) is presented, based on well-known and new morphological characters, especially male terminalia. Eight previously known spe-cies are redescribed, with illustrations: clavipes (Fabricius, 1805) (lectotype paralectotypes here desig-nated), R. femorata 1805), glabrata Prado, 1966, goyana nudipes Frey, 1959, tessellataPrado, tibialis Walker, 1852, titillatrix Steyskal, 1967 designated). An inventory of the species Sciomyzidae that occur in Coastal Plains southern Brazil was conducted. Sampling resulted 304 specimens, 278 which were collected with nets and 26 Malaise traps. A total 11 distributed eight genera collected. New distribution records for Protodictya iguassu Steyskal, 1950 Thecomyia lateralis (Walker, 1858) are recorded from Rio Grande do Sul.

The Brazilian Coastal Plain of the Pampa Biome (CPPB), has suffered fragmentation caused by resource extraction and cattle raising. In turn, conservation proposals are needed to prevent anthropisation natural areas. first step towards using insects is fauna inventories, providing data support for legislators. Thus, we undertook a regional broad-scale sampling survey investigate diversity Muscidae flies in protected non-protected areas CPPB. addition, carried out an ecological guild analysis...

The natural areas of the Coastal Plain Rio Grande do Sul (CPRS) have suffered fragmentation due to anthropic action. faunal surveys offer a low-cost method quickly evaluate environmental alterations, and Syrphidae flies are often used as models in this kind study. We aimed ascertain diversity South region Brazil by estimating its species' richness, use data identify new for conservation. In survey Malaise traps were installed 8 days CPRS, which was divided into five regions. Each subdivided...

In this study, we conducted a survey of researchers studying flies in Brazil, with the aim acquiring up-to-date information about them, across multiple aspects, i.e., demographics, opinions, needs, and main challenges they face. We developed an online questionnaire collected responses between September November 2019; 126 were received. Most them held Ph.D. identified themselves as males. Nearly all respondents worked exclusively public institutions, most financially reliant on scholarships...

Itatingamyia Albuquerque, 1979 is rare in collections, with only nine specimens preserved museums. Two species are known, and their placement within Muscidae was never tested using molecular data. Here, we estimate the position of mitochondrial (COI) nuclear (AATS, CAD, EF1-α) markers Maximum likelihood Bayesian posterior probabilities as optimality criteria. According to our results, propose classify a Cyrtoneurininae. We also describe previously unknown female egg couriae Haseyama de...
