We investigated the Neoproterozoic–early Paleozoic evolution of Gondwanan margin north-central Andes by employing U-Pb zircon geochronology in Eastern Cordilleras Peru and Ecuador using a combination laser-ablation–inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry detrital analysis dating syn- post-tectonic intrusive rocks thermal ionization mass ion microprobe. The majority samples exhibits prominent peaks ranges 0.45–0.65 Ga 0.9–1.3 Ga, with minimal older detritus from Amazonian craton. These...

The origin of the peridotites that form cratonic mantle roots is a central issue in understanding history and survival Earth's oldest continents.A longstanding hypothesis holds unusual bulk compositions some stem from their as subducted oceanic serpentinite, dehydrated during subduction to rigid buoyant keels (Schulze, 1986;Canil Lee, 2009).We present oxygen isotope data 93 five different Archean cratons evaluate possible serpentinites.Cratonic peridotite shows remarkably uniform δ 18 O...

Plate tectonic reconstructions of the late Mesoproterozoic–Neoproterozoic supercontinent Rodinia juxtapose western margin Amazonia against eastern Laurentia based on palaeomagnetic, isotopic, and geological evidence. Mesoproterozoic ('Grenvillian') orogenic belts are crucial importance to these as they act key tracers for Amazonia–Laurentia interactions. They include sited (such Sunsás Orogen), para- autochthonous elements such metamorphic basement inliers within Andean Belt (e.g. in...
