This paper shows coastal evolution along the Andalusia Region (Spain) and impacts on it of structures. The study area was divided into 47 units to calculate erosion/accretion/stability (or evolution) rates by using DSAS extension ArcGIS software. Evolution were different classes from “Very high accretion” erosion”. As a result, 9 recorded accretion, 19 stability erosion. Further, 17 presented positive balance 28 negative one, showing net 29,738.4 m2/year corresponding loss 1784.30 km2 beach...
The present work deals with the characterization and classification of storm events affecting Cadiz Gulf, i.e. coast including Southern Portugal, SW Spain Northern Morocco. general morphology gulf its location determine exposition trajectory storms zone, producing significant energy gradients alongshore. This study focuses on frequency distribution different types storms, in order to estimate their probability occurrence. Storm was obtained by using wave data records from HIPOCAS (Hindcast...
La Banya spit, located at the south of River Ebro Delta, is a sandy formation, developed by annexation bars forming successive beach ridges, which are oriented and modeled eastern southern waves. The initial ridges run parallel to coastline, above them small dunes developed, crests dominant winds, foredune barchans. This study attempted test number techniques in order understand dune dynamic on this coastal spit between 2004 2012: LiDAR data were used reconstruct changes surface volume...
The geomorphological, sedimentological, topographical and chronological analysis of a large area located on the left bank Guadalquivir estuary (SW Iberian Peninsula), has enabled an extensive Late Pleistocene coastal plain to be defined, featuring series littoral strands. These rest uncomfortably rocky basal unit (BU) from Lower Pleistocene, with age 1.1 Ma BP, showing shore platform morphology. presents facies system where two stratigraphic units have been defined (CPU 1, 2 3). All indicate...
This work deals with the estimation of beach susceptibility to storminess in Bay Cadiz (SW Spain), and concomitant environmental implications. For this purpose a comparison was made between natural behaviour beaches type amount coastal damage by energetic waves every type. Knowledge on morphodynamic obtained from monthly topographic monitoring 32 transepts normal coastline, performed during 30 consecutive months. Widely used parameters, like Surf Similarity Scaling were applied data,...
In SW Spain, numerous tourist beaches have been nourished over recent years to counteract coastal retreat. Nourishment projects not produced great endurance, mainly because of the lack basic information on dynamics and longshore sediment transport paths. order cover these aspects in a sandy sector south Guadalquivir River mouth, beach monitoring program was carried out between 1996 1998, with secondary 2000 2002. Four main types were identified, each one different volumetric trends during...
During the last decades many salt marshes worldwide have suffered important losses in their extent and associated ecosystem services. The of San Vicente de la Barquera estuary (N Spain) are a clear example this, with drastic reduction vegetation surface over 60 years. This paper provides insights into main factors controlling marsh functioning sheltered estuarine areas. Regional local been disaggregated to identify drivers develop appropriate management measures according evolution system....
Abstract The geomorphological analysis of regional Neogene erosion surfaces is great geological interest as it helps in the reconstruction environmental evolution continental areas. Moreover, structural their deformation a good approach to identification main neotectonic trends at scale. Iberian Range an excellent example application this kind study. It shows four stepped surfaces, well preserved general and whose ages range from middle Miocene Villafranchian. Their formation related...
