Abstract The integrated Resonant Magnetic Perturbation (RMP)-based Edge-Localized Mode (ELM)-crash-control process aims to enhance the plasma performance during RMP-driven ELM crash suppression, where RMP induces an unwanted confinement degradation. Abstract The Korean Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research has been focused on exploring the key physics and engineering issues for future fusion reactors by demonstrating long pulse operation of high beta steady-state discharge. scenarios are being developed with goal operation, significant progress made in ℓ i , hybrid β N 3. In new scenario called fast ion regulated enhanced (FIRE), ions play an essential role confinement enhancement. GK simulations show a reduction thermal energy flux...

Abstract In this study, we demonstrate argon-seeded discharges that exhibited a detached divertor during the full suppression and mitigation of edge-localized modes (ELMs) by an International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor-like, three-row resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) configuration in KSTAR. During ELM phase, peak heat flux on target was successfully reduced from 1.6 MW m −2 –0.5 via argon seeding. Further, ion saturation current densities corresponding to particle fluxes both...

Abstract Detachment control based on ion saturation current I sat measurements from Langmuir probes (LPs) is implemented in the KSTAR tokamak and shown to be capable of following dynamic constant target trajectories with good accuracy, H-mode, by moderating flow rate nitrogen or deuterium. controllers normalize order form attachment fraction ( A frac ) as their parameter. The implementation differs previous work that it continuously calculates a model for attached uses denominator , whereas...

We present that a statistical method known as the Complexity-Entropy analysis is useful to characterize state of plasma turbulence and flux in resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) edge localized mode (ELM) control experiment. The RMP ELM suppression phase with stochastic pedestal top temperature fluctuation can be distinguished from natural free chaotic fluctuation. It discussed near originated narrow layer field penetration top. forced island emit drift wave comparable sizes (relatively...

Abstract Suppression or mitigation of edge-localized mode (ELM) crashes is necessary for ITER. The strategy to suppress all the ELM by resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) should be applied as soon first low-to-high confinement (L–H) transition occurs. A control algorithm based on real-time machine learning (ML) enables such an approach: it classifies H-mode and ELMy phase in automatically applies preemptive RMP. This paper reports design, which now implemented KSTAR plasma-control system,...

At the beginning of every KSTAR campaign, during plasma commissioning period, a stable tokamak operation condition is aimed to be established support various physics experiments throughout rest campaign. To achieve this, considering KSTAR's superconducting operation, startup recipe confirmed, and component auxiliary devices for fuel, heating, diagnostics must checked. A robust scenario has been secured at period all experiments. Then, work deals with shaping fueling heating. As last stage,...

Recent control advances at KSTAR enabled us not only to establish but also sustain the ITER-similar shape (ISS) in a stationary manner, matching ITER-like dimensionless parameters lower single null (LSN) configuration with vastly contrasting upper/lower triangularities. The kinetic of ISS are different from typical configurations seen ELM-RMP suppression experiments. It is experimentally demonstrated ISS-compatible RMP for first time, using n=2, +90 degrees phasing RMP.
