Age determinations using the 235U and 238U radioactive decay series to daughter isotopes 207Pb 206Pb, respectively, mineral zircon (ZrSiO4), are widely used decipher geological processes. A new method developed in last couple of years, laser ablation multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-MC-ICP-MS), overcomes previous laborious sample preparation, yields isotopic ratios age data with a high spatial resolution ten microns. The present study describes analytical...
Abstract The Araçuaí orogen extends from the eastern edge of São Francisco craton to Atlantic margin, in southeastern Brazil. Orogenic igneous rocks, formed c. 630 480 Ma, cover one third this huge area, building up Eastern Brazilian Pegmatite Province and most important dimension stone province G1 supersuite (630–585 Ma) mainly consists tonalite granodiorite, with mafic dioritic facies enclaves, representing a continental calc-alkaline magmatic arc. G2 mostly includes S-type granites during...
Abstract The Borborema and Benin–Nigeria provinces of NE Brazil NW Africa, respectively, are key areas in the amalgamation West Gondwana by continental collision during Brasiliano/Pan-African orogenies. Both underlain complex basement: Nigeria has c. 3.05 Ga Archaean crust but no known Palaeoproterozoic rocks >2.0 Ga; Brazil, 2.6–3.5 form small cores within gneiss terrains affected plutonism at 2.17 Ga. regions exhibit Late ( 1.8 Ga) rift-related magmatism metasedimentary sequences...
