The fifth species of the genus, Megacormus xichu sp. nov., is described and compared to other species. An identification key these as well a distributional map with localities taken from literature are provided.

The taxonomy of American deer has been established almost entirely on the basis morphological data and without use explicit phylogenetic methods; hence, analyses including for all currently recognized species, even if based a single gene, might improve current understanding their taxonomy. We tested monophyly morphology-defined genera species New World (Odocoileini) with mitochondrial DNA sequences. This is first such test conducted using extensive geographic taxonomic sampling. Our results...

We performed a population viability analysis (PVA) using stochastic model employing RAMAS/Metapop software: 1) to evaluate the contribution of demographic parameters growth, and 2) simulate group trend local extinction probability Mexican mantled howler monkeys Alouatta palliata mexicana in Los Tuxtlas, Mexico, under two landscape scenarios: isolated populations (IPS) patchy or metapopulation (MPS). found that as number adult females per fragment increased, rate fecundity relative...

New distributional mammal records are reported for Yaxchilán, Chiapas, Mexico, and Belize. Nicéforo's large-eared bat Trinycteris nicefori (Chiroptera, Phyllostomidae) is documented the first time providing northwesternmost locality species. A new Belizean also constitutes northernmost record. The dark Mexican shrew Cryptotis griseoventris (Soricomorpha, Soricidae) has been previously from highlands in coniferous forest at elevations above 2,100 m; its presence lowland Selva Lacandona (below...

Mazama temama (Kerr, 1792) is a representative species of the northern Neotropics, but geographic range limits for this remain unclear. We report southernmost record M. from southwestern Colombian Andes, increasing previously known by more than 300 km. obtained cytochrome gene sequence (849 bp) which 95% identical to samples Mexico. This raises need extensive sampling obtain complete information about distribution in Colombia.

Abstract The Central American brocket deer (Mazama temama) is widespread across the Mesoamerican forests, yet it remains largely unknown. Three subspecies are recognized currently within M. temama using pelage coloration as primary diagnostic character. However, unclear if there any pattern of morphological variation throughout its distribution. We compared two models subdivision, namely traditional and another based on biogeographic provinces via 2D geometric morphometrics ecological niche...
