This study examined adolescent delinquency and alcohol use in relation to young adult crime, disorders (AUDs), risky sex. Analyses further the influences of late childhood involvement these problem behavior outcomes, with mediation through teen use, differences pathways for youth from low- compared middle-income backgrounds.
Population studies support the adverse associations of air pollution exposures with child behavioral functioning and cognitive performance, but few have used spatiotemporally resolved pollutant assessments. We investigated these using more refined exposure assessments in 1,967 mother-child dyads from three U.S. pregnancy cohorts six cities ECHO-PATHWAYS Consortium.Pre- postnatal nitrogen dioxide (NO2) particulate matter (PM) ≤2.5μm aerodynamic diameter (PM2.5) were derived an advanced...
Objective: In this study, the cross-temporal relationship between family social support and adolescent alcohol use was examined. A primary aim to investigate mechanisms through which affects drinking among youth. Another examine reciprocal relationships study variables. Method: Four-wave (with 6-month intervals) panel survey data collected from 840 middle boys (n = 443) girls 397) attending a suburban school district in western New York were analyzed using structural equation modeling with...
To explicate the nature of relationship between depressive symptoms and substance use, authors conducted research that incorporated both individual group approaches utilized longitudinal data across development. Multiple-group latent growth curve models were used to assess specific dimensions (cross-sectional correlation, within-individual change, movement off developmental trajectories) use during adolescence how this differs by gender. Annual survey from 8th through 11th grade provided 441...
Abstract Aims This study tests risk factors for four dimensions of alcohol use in the sequence from (i) early onset prior to age 13 (ii) adolescent and (iii) problems (iv) young adult abuse. It also examines whether family‐focused preventive interventions buffer predictive relationships. Design Data were a randomized prevention trial extending ages 11 21 years. Setting Families sixth graders enrolled 33 rural schools M idwestern U nited S tates invited participate. Participants ( n = 667)...
Purpose: Polydrug use is relatively common amongst adolescents.Psychological distress associated with the of specific drugs, and may be uniquely polydrug use.The purpose was to test association psychological using a large adolescent sample. Methods: The sample consisted 10,273 students aged 12-17 years age from State Victoria, Australia.Participants completed frequency measures tobacco, alcohol, cannabis, inhalant, other drug in past thirty days, distress.Control variables included age,...
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous pollutants originating from petrogenic and pyrogenic sources. PAH compounds can cross the placenta, prenatal exposure is linked to adverse infant childhood health outcomes. In this first human transcriptomic assessment of PAHs in we examined associations between placental gene expression gain insight into mechanisms by which may disrupt function. The ECHO PATHWAYS Consortium quantified transcriptome 629 pregnant participants enrolled...
Gene regulation is essential to placental function and fetal development. We built a genome-scale transcriptional regulatory network (TRN) of the human placenta using digital genomic footprinting transcriptomic data. integrated 475 transcriptomes 12 DNase hypersensitivity datasets from samples globally quantitatively map transcription factor (TF)-target gene interactions. In an independent dataset, TRN model predicted target expression with out-of-sample
Reciprocal relations between self-reported substance use and delinquency were examined through the analysis of 4-wave panel data collected from 1,218 high school students. A longitudinal, latent-variable framework was used to investigate interrelationships changing patterns generalized involvement in these 2 problem behaviors, while simultaneously accounting for specificity drug (e.g., marijuana use) theft). Analyses revealed that a model bidirectional effects polysubstance general plausible...
Objective: Despite frequent theorizing, prior literature on the association between depressive symptoms and alcohol use in adolescence has been inconsistent. Yet studies have varied widely with respect to age at assessments, time frame of prediction, controls for comorbid conditions demographic factors. The current study examined whether associations were similar valence magnitude over a 4-year period early adolescence. Method: A sample 521 young adolescents their parents interviewed every...
A number of cross-sectional and a few longitudinal studies have shown developmental relationship between child abuse adult physical mental health. Published findings also suggest that social support can lessen the risk adverse outcomes for some abused children. However, investigated whether mediates or moderates Structural equation modeling was used to examine data on these topics from study more than 30 years. While latent construct emotional did not predict health directly, indirectly...
BACKGROUND: Phthalates are commonly used endocrine-disrupting chemicals that ubiquitous in the general population.Prenatal phthalate exposure may alter placental physiology and fetal development, leading to adverse perinatal childhood health outcomes.OBJECTIVE: We examined associations between prenatal second third trimesters transcriptome at birth, including genes long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), gain insight into potential mechanisms of action during development. METHODS:The ECHO PATHWAYs...
