Pd(OAc)2/Bu4NBr/K2CO3 and dimethylformamide - these are the reaction conditions under which norbornene reacts selectively with three molecules of iodobenzene to give hydrocarbon 1 containing a 4-phenyl-9,10-dihydrophenanthrene moiety annelated norbornane framework. Photocyclization two dehydrogenation steps transform in high yield into norbornene-annelated benzo[e]pyrene 2. Analogous domino Heck couplings were also observed deltacyclene, indene, [2.2]paracyclophane-l,9-diene.

We report experiments and analysis of field emission from metallic knife-edge cathodes, which are sputter-coated with thin films lanthanum hexaboride (LaB6), a low-work function material.
