光感応性の高分子吸着体を設計するための基礎的知見を得る日的で, アゾ色素 (PPAn) やスピロピラン (ASP) を側鎖に有する高分子を合成し, そのフィルム上での水に対するぬれ測定から光によるフォトクロミックポリマーの疎水性変化を検討した. アゾ色素系高分子では紫外光照射によりぬれが増大し, 可視光照射または熱異性化によりぬれが元の値に回復した. この可逆的なぬれ変化は, アゾ色素がトランス体からシス体へ異性化することにより大きな双極子モーメントの変化が生じるためと考えられる. またPAAnと2-ヒドロキシエチルメタクリラートとの共重合体では, 光照射に伴うぬれの変化域が組成により異なることがわかった. スピロピラン系高分子でも光照射に伴いぬれが可逆的に変化した. この可逆的なぬれ変化はスピロピランの光イオン開裂に起因するものと考えられる.

フォトメカニカル効果におよぼす疎水性相互作用の寄与を明らかにする目的で,2-Uドロキシエチル=メタクリラート(HEMA)-N-ビニルピPtリドン(VPy)共重合体とアニオン性アゾ系色素からなる水溶液の粘度挙動より,光照射前後の分子形態変化と疎水性相互作用との相関について検討した。HEMA-VPy共重合体水溶液に色素を添加すると高分子電解質と類似の粘度挙動を示す複合体が形成され,色素の負電荷により共重合体の分子鎖は広がった形態となることがわかった。この分子鎖の広がりは共重合体の疎水性が大きいほどいちじるしく,複合体形成に疎水性相互作用が重要な役割を果たしていると考えられる。さらに複合体水溶液に光照射と光遮断を交互に行なうと,色素の光異性化と熱異性化に対応して複合体の分子形態が可逆的に変化することがわかった。またこのような光化学的形態変化は,共重合体の疎水性の増大とともに大きくなることが認められた。すなわち色素の光反応にともなう可逆的分子形態変化は,分子内の疎水性相互作用でコンパクトな形態を取りやすい共重合体ほど大きくなる。このことは水中で大きなフォトメカニカル効果を取り出すためには...

高分子カルボン酸とアゾ色素からなるコンプレックス溶液の光による可逆的なpH変化と高分子の化学構造との関係を検討する目的で, 高分子カルボン酸としてアクリル酸 (AA) -アクリルアニリド (AAn), メタクリル酸 (MA) -メタクリルアニリド (MAn) あるいはMA-メタクリルアミド (MAm) 共重合体を合成した. MA共重合体水溶液にアニオン性のアゾ色素を添加すると低中和度領域でコンプレックスが形成され, 結合した色素の負電荷により系のpHが上昇した. AA-AAn共重合体系の場合には, 色素の添加により逆にpHが低下し, 中性塩を添加したときと同様の静電しゃへい (遮蔽) 効果を示した. MA共重合体からなるコンプレックス水溶液に光照射と光しゃ (遮) 断を交互に行うと, 色素の光異性化と熱異性化に対応して系のpHが可逆的に変化することがわかった. また, このような光pH変化の領域が, 共重合体の組成あるいはコモノマーの種類を変えることで規制できると結論した.
