The identification of human artifacts at the early archaeological site Monte Verde in southern Chile has raised questions when and how people reached tip South America without leaving much other evidence New World. Remains nine species marine algae were recovered from hearths features II, an upper occupational layer, directly dated between 14,220 13,980 calendar years before present ( approximately 12,310 12,290 carbon-14 ago). These findings support interpretation indicate that site's...

Questions surrounding the chronology, place, and character of initial human colonization Americas are a long-standing focus debate. Interdisciplinary debate continues over timing entry, rapidity direction dispersion, variety responses to diverse habitats, criteria for evaluating validity early sites, differences similarities between in North South America. Despite recent advances our understanding these issues, archaeology still faces challenges defining interdisciplinary research problems,...

Compelling archaeological evidence of an occupation older than Clovis (~12.8 to 13.1 thousand years ago) in North America is present at only a few sites, and the stone tool assemblages from these sites are small varied. The Debra L. Friedkin site, Texas, contains assemblage 15,528 artifacts that define Buttermilk Creek Complex, which stratigraphically underlies dates between ~13.2 15.5 ago. Complex confirms emerging view people occupied Americas before provides large artifact explore origins.

Island wakes and headland eddies in coastal waters are identified from spaceborne airborne remotely sensed imagery the visible wavelengths. The were obtained for Bristol English channels, United Kingdom, which characterized by high tidal currents levels of turbidity. Suspended matter surface is used as a passive tracer flow features. Scaling parameters (e.g., Reynolds, Ekman, Rossby numbers), depth averaged equation motion, presented based upon information on oceanographic conditions at...

Abstract. The present contribution constitutes the first comprehensive attempt to (a) record spatial characteristics of beaches Aegean archipelago (Greece), a critical resource for both local and national economy, (b) provide rapid assessment impacts long-term episodic sea level rise (SLR) under different scenarios. Spatial information other attributes (e.g., presence coastal protection works backshore development) 58 largest islands were obtained on basis remote-sensed images available web....
