This letter presents a sub-6 GHz cost-effective wideband dual-polarized plane wave generator (PWG) design for the fifth-generation (5G) base station over-the-air test. The proposed nonuniform PWG is composed of 256 elements and has dimension 1.7 m × m. Several novel strategies are implemented to reduce cost complexity. This paper presents an efficient method to calculate the near field distribution of planar antenna array. brings a great benefit reducing computation complexity in optimization. The aperture formula is introduced optimize excitation amplitude and phase plane wave generator (PWG). Numerical examples, showing design results non-ideality factors effect PWG system practical engineering applications, are discussed.
