The preparation of transmission electron microscopy cross-section specimens using focused ion beam milling is outlined. “liftout” and “trench” techniques are both described in detail, their relative advantages disadvantages discussed. Artifacts such as damage to the top surface sidewalls specimens, methods reducing them, addressed.

Background: Open-label studies are not ideal for providing robust evidence long-term maintenance of efficacy medicines, especially where medicines provide symptom relief and use a placebo may be problematic ethical. Objective: To evaluate the Sativex in subjects who have gained symptomatic spasticity multiple sclerosis (MS), to assess impact sudden medicine withdrawal. Methods: An enriched enrolment randomized withdrawal study design was used. Eligible with ongoing benefit from at least 12...

Objective This narrative review aims to provide a clinical perspective on the potential role of co-crystal tramadol–celecoxib (CTC) in management acute moderate-to-severe pain by synthesizing available preclinical and data, with emphasis phase 3 trials.

Abstract Objective Although common treatments for osteoarthritis (OA) pain, such as nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), simple analgesics, and weak opioids, provide relief in some cases, they fail to control pain or are poorly tolerated many cases. Strong opioids have been used successfully treat several types of noncancer but rarely tested controlled studies. Therefore, we the effects transdermal fentanyl (TDF) patients with moderate‐to‐severe OA a placebo‐controlled study....

Gyroid-structured calcite crystals are grown by templating though self-assembled copolymer films. The remarkable triply periodic minimal surface is perfectly replicated on the nanometer scale, while single crystallinity maintained. This a wholly synthetic route to crystal morphology found in biological systems, only smaller length scale.

Mesoporous Bragg reflectors are a promising materials platform for photovoltaics, light emission, and sensing. A fast versatile fabrication route that relies on the self-assembly of block copolymer poly(isoprene-b-ethylene oxide) in combination with simple sol-gel chemistry is reported. The method allows extended control over porosity pore size resulting inorganic material results high-quality optical elements. Detailed facts importance to specialist readers published as "Supporting...

Persistent postsurgical pain is common and affects quality of life. The hypothesis was that use pregabalin ketamine would prevent persistent after cardiac surgery. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial undertaken at two surgery centers in the United Kingdom. Adults without chronic undergoing any elective patients via sternotomy were randomly assigned to receive either usual care, (150 mg preoperatively twice daily for 14 postoperative days) alone, or combination with a 48-h...

Co-crystal of tramadol-celecoxib (CTC) is the first analgesic co-crystal for acute pain. This completed phase 3 multicenter, double-blind trial assessed efficacy and safety/tolerability CTC in comparison with that tramadol setting moderate-to-severe pain up to 72 h after elective third molar extraction requiring bone removal. Adults (n = 726) were assigned randomly five groups (2:2:2:2:1): orally administered twice-daily 100 mg (44 rac-tramadol hydrochloride/56 celecoxib; n 164), 150 (66/84...

A focused-ion beam has been used to pattern magnetic antidot arrays containing different sized antidots and spacings in Ni80Fe20 films. Their domain structure studied using Lorentz transmission electron microscopy, which shown that the edges of pin walls during magnetization reversal. The remanent was found depend strongly on size spacing, from domains pinned between corners adjacent rows for large sizes small sizes. relevance such structures high density recording is discussed.

The room temperature onset plastic deformation and crack behavior of 3C‐SiC under contact load were investigated using nanoindentation transmission electron microscopy ( TEM ). During loading, abrupt bursts or pop‐in in the load–displacement curves was observed at a depth ~60 nm. deforms elastically before depth, but exhibits plastic‐elastic after that. observations reveal that shear slip is predominant mechanism during indentation. cracks usually initiate intersection bands grain boundary....
