Abstract From sedimentation equilibrium, light scattering, and viscosity measurements on a series of native sonicated samples schizophyllan, extracellular β‐1,3‐ D ‐glucan, the following results were obtained: (i) weight‐average z ‐average molecular weights ( M̄ w ) in water are about three times as large those dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO); (ii) exponent Houwink‐Mark‐Sakurada intrinsic relation is close to 1.7, whereas DMSO it 0.68; (iii) viscosities with below 5 × 10 at 25°C can be fitted by...

In situ spacer layer interferometry has been used to monitor and compare the formation of both tribo- thermal zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) films on steel surfaces. For ZDDP solution studied, negligible film takes place below a temperature 110°C, but tribofilm is generated rubbed surfaces even at room temperature. The critically dependent extent direct solid contact during rubbing does not take if elastohydrodynamic thickness significantly greater than surface roughness. Tests different...

Abstract Stress relaxation in the systems PVAc (polyvinyl acetate)‐water, PVAc‐methanol, PMA (polymethyl acrylate)‐water, and PMA‐methanol was measured at several temperatures above glass‐transition points of pure polymers ranges sufficiently low concentrations diluents. It found that time‐concentration superposition principle as proposed by Ferry is applied successfully to these data obtain master curves fixed temperatures. The so obtained different were further superposed with each other...

An empirical viscosity vs concentration relation for concentrated polymer solutions is derived in terms of a simple free volume theory, and its applicability tested with some available data amorphous polymer+solvent systems. It found that the fits well those over range concentrations so interchain entanglements occur to form weak network structure throughout solution. In region relative low concentrations, however, it shows deviation common feature from experimental results. Two...
