Waste heat recovery in the energy intensive industry is one of most important measures for mitigation climate change. The present study examines integration a packed bed thermal storage waste iron and steel industry. Along with highly fluctuating availability excess main difficulty industrial processes high amount powder that transported by hot exhaust gases. Therefore, experimental investigations this focus on hold-up pressure drop operated gas-powder two phase gas as transfer fluid....
Bilateral sagittal split osteotomy is a commonly used, standard procedure in orthognathic surgery to correct malocclusion and jaw misalignment. Postoperative vascular complications are extremely rare under-reported the literature. This contribution presents case of 48-year-old male patient who underwent bilateral due class II skeletal malocclusion. There were no abnormalities during surgery. However, developed facial palsy experienced pulse-synchronised murmur. Computed tomographic...
The oral cavity is densely populated with microorganisms. As a result, intraoral surgical sites are prone to contamination by pathogens, potentially triggering site infections (SSIs). Prophylactic antibiotics have proven beneficial in reducing the rate of SSIs. However, no consensus has been reached regarding most effective regimen. purpose this study was investigate two different antibiotic regimens - single-dose and prolonged prophylaxis severity postoperative SSIs patients undergoing...
Renewable-dominated power grids will require industry to run their processes in accordance with the availability of energy. At same time, digitalization introduces new possibilities leverage untapped optimization potential provide this flexibility. Mathematical methods such as mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) are widely used predict optimal operation plans for industrial systems. MILP models difficult adapt, but viability predicted relies on accurate underlying actual behavior. New...
Extensive defects in the head and neck area often require use of advanced free flap reconstruction techniques. In this study, thoracodorsal perforator-scapular technique based on angular artery (TDAP-Scap-aa flap) was postoperatively evaluated regarding quality life donor site morbidity using standardized SF-36 DASH questionnaires (short form health 36 disabilities arm, shoulder hand scores). Over a five-year period (2016−2020), 20 selected cases (n = 20) requiring both soft hard tissue were...
The aim of this prospective observational study was to investigate the parameter 'hidden blood loss' (HBL) in context orthognathic surgery, incorporating undetected bleeding volumes occurring intra- and postoperatively. Orthognathic were recorded at three different time points. At end operation visible intraoperative loss (VBL) measured. Additionally, perioperative calculated 24 h 48 postoperatively using 'haemoglobin balance method'. Analysis HBL based on difference between (CBL),...
Pierre Robin sequence (Robin sequence) is defined as the triad of micrognathia, glossoptosis, and airway obstruction. It frequently associated with palatal clefting. In recent years, increased interest in speech outcomes cleft patients diagnosed has been shown.Speech were assessed at age 5 comparison a palate-only cohort. Speech parameters evaluated according to Cleft Audit Protocol for Speech-Augmented analyzed using National Standards (United Kingdom). All treated same institution during...
Background: For the cleft surgeon, palatal fistulae after palate repair remain a difficult problem, with paucity of local tissue options to aid closure. Small clinical series have described use buccal fat pad flap fistulae; however, there is no literature detailing anatomical coverage flap. This study delineates anatomy guide surgeons in patient selection and examines residual harvest provide new information regard possible effects on donor site. Methods: Buccal flaps were raised 30...
Third molars often require surgical removal. Since three-dimensional radiological assessment is indicated in difficult cases to avoid complications, the radiation burden has be considered. Here, MRI may offer a dose-free alternative conventional X-ray techniques. The aim of this retrospective analysis was evaluate quality compared panoramic radiography impacted and partially lower third molars.Panoramic radiographs scans 28 Caucasian patients were assessed twice by four investigators. Wisdom...
Summary Thromboelastography/thromboelastometry (TEG→/ROTEM→) is widely used in near-patient setting, especially perioperative and intensive care medicine for the management of acute bleeding. Until now a comprehensive quality an external control TEG→/ROTEM→ results not established. Here we report about our pilot survey performed 2008 2009 integrated External Quality Assessment Schemes (EQAS) by INSTAND. According to this first EQAS data ROTEM→ can be controlled schemes using lyophilized...
Open reduction with internal fixation (ORIF) for facial fractures has frequently been associated the occurrence of surgical site infections (SSIs). Perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis is customarily recommended ORIF. Thus, comparison two different regimens (i.e., single-dose and prolonged prophylaxis) concerning rate severity SSIs in fracture patients undergoing ORIF was main purpose this study. This retrospective analysis included who underwent fractures. They were distributed into groups....
We investigate the security of privacy enhancing techniques for biometric applications. The fuzzy vault Jules and Sudan is a technique that allows error tolerant authentication, while preserving reference data. Several publications have proposed its application to fingerprints in order implement privacy-enhanced authentication. While heuristic estimates given are promising, no rigid analysis has been presented so far. explore if under what circumstances provably secure fingerprint can be...
The objectives of this prospective cohort study were to establish gender-related differences in blood loss and haemostatic profiles associated with bimaxillary surgery. In addition, we aimed identify if any gender could be established which might help predict volume.Fifty-four patients (22 males; 32 females) undergoing surgery for skeletal dentofacial deformities eligible inclusion. Blood samples taken 1 day preoperatively 48 h postoperatively detailed gender-specific coagulation analysis...
The fuzzy vault is an error tolerant authentication method that ensures the privacy of stored reference data. Several publications have proposed application to fingerprints, but results subsequent analyses indicate a single finger does not contain sufficient information for secure implementation. In this contribution, we present implementation based on minutiae in several fingerprints aiming at security level comparable current cryptographic applications. We analyze and empirically evaluate...
The NIST Fingerprint Image Quality (NFIQ) algorithm has become a standard method to assess fingerprint image quality. However, in many applications more accurate and reliable assessment is desirable. In this publication, we report on our efforts optimize the NFIQ by re-training of underlying neural network based large database. Although only achieved marginal improvement, work revealed several areas for potential optimization.
