A new approach to the synthesis of prostaglandins, designed with following objectives in mind, is reported. The were: 1) control stereochemistry; 2) all primary prostaglandins and a variety analogs from single precursor; 3) optical resolution at an early stage. fifteenth step yielded dl-prostaglandin F2 alpha identical natural hormone. Step by routes stereochemistry are depicted text.
