Forequarter (interscapulothoracic) amputation is a major ablative surgical procedure that was originally described to manage traumatic injuries of the upper extremity. Currently, it most commonly used in treatment malignant tumours arm. With advent limb-sparing techniques, primary forequarter performed less frequently, but remains powerful option managing extremity; therefore, surgeons should be familiar with this procedure. A classic case report amputation, emphasis on indications and presented.
Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita is a condition characterized by multiple contractures of the joints. Involvement temporomandibular joint common complication that limits mandibular opening. A case with anterior open bite and limited maximal incisal opening presented. Orthognathic surgery, consisting segmental LeFort I osteotomy bilateral sagittal split osteotomy, was performed successfully on this patient.
Background: Acute osteomyelitis of the hand is common in pediatric population. Treatment with intravenous antibiotics expensive and associated catheter-site infection thrombosis. The purpose this study to investigate efficacy managing children oral antibiotics. Methods: A retrospective review cases acute at a single institution over 4.5-year period was performed. Demographic clinical data were reviewed, treatment courses outcomes analyzed. Results: In total, 21 patients included study. Of...
There are many documented neurological complications of anterior iliac crest bone harvest. Until now, these have included injuries to the iliohypogastric, subcostal and lateral femoral cutaneous nerves. Femoral nerve palsy as a direct surgical complication harvest has never been cited in any literature, although it reported deep pelvic abdominal surgeries which improper retraction and/or prolonged hyperextension hip may caused compression syndrome. In addition, patients on antithrombolytic...
Nipple hypertrophy is associated with physical and psychological sequelae, leading patients to seek corrective treatment. The authors present a simple surgical technique reduce nipple height minimal tissue manipulation.Between November 2000 October 2010, the senior author (CM) employed amputation correct in 30 consecutive patients. A horizontal incision was made through distal portion of nonerect state remove predetermined height. After amputation, epinephrine-soaked gauze applied site for 5...
Background: Previous seawater studies found Vibrio species associated with morbidity, suggesting that seawater-contaminated wounds should be treated early. The purpose of this study was to identify common pathogens and antibiotic sensitivities provide empiric therapy until patient-specific culture results are available. Methods: Seasonal samples were collected from 25 Galveston beach locations cultured. Colonies identified performed using MicroScan Positive Negative Breakpoint Combo Panels....
AbstractBackground Pressure injuries (PI) are a significant source of morbidity for individuals with spinal cord injury/disease (SCI/D). They also associated healthcare resource utilization including prolonged hospitalizations. However, the long-term outcomes in terms wound recurrence-free survival, hospital readmission rates, and all-cause mortality this population remain largely unknown. Objective To examine clinical characteristics, SCI Veterans hospitalized at VA North Texas Health Care...

Background: Isolated scaphoid fractures (ISFs) are common, whereas transscaphoid fracture-dislocations (TSFDs) not. Scaphoid fracture location and the extent of comminution factors that affect treatment outcome. The purpose this study is to compare radiographic characteristics ISFs with TSFDs associated greater arc injury. Methods: This a retrospective review all presented our institution during 5-year period. Fracture (along long axis scaphoid) was calculated by dividing distance from...
Abstract Background Pressure injuries (PI) and the complication of PI-related osteomyelitis (PIrOM), are a significant source morbidity mortality in spinal cord injury (SCI) patients. This study describes epidemiology, healthcare utilization, outcomes SCI patients with PI at large Veterans’ Affairs (VA) hospital. Methods We retrospectively reviewed all stage 3 or 4 pelvic area admitted to VA North Texas unit from 1/1/2013 12/31/2018. abstracted demographic, diagnostic testing, treatment,...
