Temporary ponds are distributed worldwide, providing significant ecological services. Their limnological features influenced by a set of regional (mainly climate) and local (natural or anthropogenic) factors. To evaluate the differences in their functioning distant geographic regions, we analysed main 90 temporary located three distinct areas: two mediterranean-climate regions (Eastern Iberian Peninsula Central Chile) tropical setting Costa Rica. Each pond was surveyed thrice during...
Abstract Many aquatic invertebrates that inhabit temporary ponds produce resting forms to overcome the dry period, building up egg bank. When wet phase returns, hatch and community is restored, then pioneer species may have a major influence on how pond will assemble. We aimed evaluate diversity of an initial metacommunity by comparing early active collected in field bank (by carrying out hatching experiment) 32 Mediterranean ponds. hypothesised both metacommunities would be similar but also...
