We analysed 15,101 biological samples from patients presenting with superficial mycoses who attended outpatient services over a 10-year period. Scale were processed for direct microscopic examination 15% KOH and cultured on Sabouraud glucose agar plus chloramphenicol cycloheximide. Laboratory confirmed 4,709 cases of mycosis (31.18%), which 2,084 (44.26%) dermatophytoses. The species most frequently encountered was Trichophyton rubrum (71.2%), followed by T. tonsurans (6.9%), mentagrophytes...

Summary Peritonitis is a frequent complication in patients with chronic renal failure on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) treatment. The aim of this study was to know the prevalence fungal peritonitis undergoing CAPD, and determine antifungal susceptibility pattern identified isolates. Samples fluid from 165 CAPD treatment manifestations were submitted mycological (direct microscopic examination, culture test). Ten Candida isolates identified, being C. albicans parapsilosis...

Sporothrix schenckii is a dimorphic fungus that causes sporotrichosis, subcutaneous mycosis found throughout the world in humans and other mammals. After contact with conidia, transition to yeast stage required for establishment of infection. Mast cells are one first components immune system make invading pathogens. They release potent mediators decisive initiating directing course inflammatory responses host. It remains unknown whether or not S. activate mast cells. Our aim this study was...

Pneumocystis carriage was detected in 12.5% of 104 cystic fibrosis (CF) patients during a prospective multicenter French study, with prevalence genotype 85C/248C and geographic variations. It significantly associated the absence Pseudomonas aeruginosa colonization greater forced expiratory volume 1 s. Results are discussed considering natural history CF.

Mast cells are abundant in the skin and other peripheral tissues, where they one of first immune to make contact with invading pathogens. As a result pathogen recognition, mast can be activated release different preformed de novo-synthesized mediators. Sporothrix schenckii is fungus that causes sporotrichosis, worldwide-distributed subcutaneous mycosis considered as an important emerging health problem. It remains unknown whether or not by S. schenckii. Here, we investigated vitro response...
