The capital, operating, and overall costs of a dedicated continuous manufacturing process to synthesize an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) formulate it into tablets are estimated for production scale 2000 t per year, with raw material cost, yield, API loading varied over broad ranges. Costs compared batch in facility. Synthesis begins key organic intermediate three synthetic steps before the final API; results given (KI) $100 $3000/kg, drug loadings tablet 10 50 wt %. novel described...

Time-varying, or dynamic, experiments can produce richer data sets than sequences of steady-state using less material and time. A case study demonstrating this concept for microreactor is presented. Beginning with five kinetic model candidates the reaction phenylisocyanate t-butanol, an initial dynamic experiment showed that two models gave a similar quality fit to experimental data, whereas remaining three significantly poorer fits. Next optimal was designed discriminate between models....
