Abstract We give an overview and describe the rationale, methods, testing of Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Archival Legacy project “SKYSURF.” SKYSURF uses HST’s unique capability as absolute photometer to measure ∼0.2–1.7 μ m sky-surface brightness (sky-SB) from 249,861 WFPC2, ACS, WFC3 exposures in ∼1400 independent HST fields. SKYSURF’s panchromatic data set is designed constrain discrete diffuse UV near-IR sky components: Zodiacal Light (ZL), Kuiper Belt Objects (KBOs), Diffuse Galactic...
We investigate the generation of seed magnetic field through Chern-Simons coupling between U(1) gauge and an axion that commences to oscillate at various epoch, depending on mass scale. address axions which begin oscillation during inflation, reheating, also radiation dominated era after thermalization Universe. study resonant mechanisms highlight a small time scale with respect cosmic expansion can lead efficient (hyper) via generation, even for (1) coupling. In addition, we demonstrate...
A bstract We study the annihilation of electroweak dumbbells and dependence their dynamics on initial dumbbell length twist. Untwisted decay rapidly while maximally twisted collapse to form a compact sphaleron-like object, before decaying into radiation. The products include electromagnetic magnetic fields with energy that is few percent energy. field from carries helicity magnitude depends twist, handedness pathway.
We analyze the magnetic field of electroweak dumbbells. While untwisted dumbbell is given by usual dipole formula and falls as $1/r^3$, dumbbells with twist have a novel twisted that only off $\cos\theta/r^2$ (in spherical coordinates). comment on relevance for understanding coherence generated at phase transition.
The vacuum manifold of the standard electroweak model is a three-sphere when one considers homogeneous Higgs field configurations. For inhomogeneous configurations we argue that Hopf fibered three sphere and this viewpoint leads to general criteria detect monopoles Z-strings. We extend Kibble mechanism study formation strings during symmetry breaking. distribution magnetic produces fields have spectrum $B_\lambda \propto \lambda^{-2}$, where $\lambda$ smearing length scale. Even as...
