Sialidase-resistant ganglioside analogues having biological activities similar to those of natural gangliosides are expected be important probes for clarifying the functions gangliosides. Focusing on difluoromethylene-linked (CF2-linked) α(2,3)sialylgalactose as a core structure sialidase-resistant mimics, we have developed novel, stereocontrolled, and efficient methodologies synthesize CF2-sialosides based Ireland−Claisen rearrangement. CF2-linked GM4 were synthesized.
A high-output-power 1550 nm polarization-insensitive semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) was developed for use as a compact in-line amplifier. very thin tensile-strained bulk structure used the active layer and width-tapered spot-size converters (SSCs) were integrated on both input output sides. The SOA module exhibited high saturation power of +17 dBm together with low noise figure 7 dB, large gain 19 polarization sensitivity 0.2 dB signals wavelength. For amplification modulated at 10...
Mitochondrial dysfunction is implicated in Parkinson disease (PD). Mutations Parkin, an E3 ubiquitin ligase, can cause juvenile-onset Parkinsonism, probably through impairment of mitophagy. Inhibition the de-ubiquitinating enzyme USP30 may counter this effect to enhance Using different tools and cellular approaches, we wanted independently confirm claimed role for USP30. Pharmacological characterisation additional tool compounds that selectively inhibit are reported. The consequence...
In this paper, we compare the positioning accuracy of helium- and air-filled drives. We report PES spectra both drives calculate mechanical disturbance. The results reveal that almost all disturbances in higher rpm are flow induced vibrations helium-filled dramatically smaller. experimental error is less than half static dynamic fluid computations explaine these results.
Glycoconjugates are an important class of biomolecules that regulate numerous biological events in cells. However, these complex, medium-size molecules metabolically unstable, which hampers detailed investigations their functions as well potential application pharmaceuticals. Here we report sialidase-resistant analogues ganglioside GM3 containing a monofluoromethylene linkage instead the native O-sialoside linkage. Stereoselective synthesis CHF-linked disaccharides and kinetically controlled...
A CH 2 -linked alpha(2,3)sialylgalactose analogue was efficiently synthesized using an Ireland-Claisen rearrangement, which developed recently by our group for constructing a CF -sialoside. The reaction conditions of the rearrangement were optimized alpha-stereoselective formation On basis observed temperature effects, origin stereoselectivity is discussed. Moreover, reconstruction 2alpha-hydroxyl on galactose unit product achieved means stereoselective dihydroxylation and deoxygenation.
We report (63,65)Cu- and (19)F-NMR studies on a four-layered high-temperature superconductor Ba(2)Ca(3)Cu(4)O(8)F(2)((0234F(2.0)) with apical fluorine (F(-1)), an undoped 55 K nominal Cu(2+) valence average. reveal that this compound exhibits the antiferromagnetism (AFM) Néel temperature T(N)=100 despite being T(c)=55 superconductor. Through comparison related trilayered cuprate Ba(2)Ca(3)Cu(4)O(8)F(2)(0233F(2.0)), it is demonstrated electrons are transferred from inner plane (IP) to outer...
Wavelength selectable lasers with record +1O dBm fiber coupled output power and uniform characteristics have been realized by integration of eight-channel distributed feedback laser arrays low-loss multi-mode interference combiners optical amplifiers a length only 2 mm.

Nerve growth factor (NGF) normally induces the differentiation of PC12 cells into a neuron-like phenotype. In this study, we found that exposure to temperature 42˚C for 24 h significantly decreased NGF-induced neurite elongation. Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) levels were when exposed heat stress, while overexpressing gene encoding GFAP showed resistance. Mock-transfected NGF could be cultured 72 at 37˚C, whereas GFAP-transfected over 100 h. Our results suggest is necessary long-term...
Suppression of harmful effect due to by-product on homo-epitaxial growth 4H-SiC films using a high speed wafer rotation vertical CVD method was demonstrated. Influence by-product, such as 3C-SiC deposit hot-wall and Si gas nozzles, formed during the epitaxial investigated in two comparative studies. The analysis triangular defects with down-falls revealed that most which were peeled from adhered wafers before growth. By increasing 300 rpm just after loading into reactor, dropped towards...
We have developed 1.3 μm n-type modulation-doped strained-layer quantum-well lasers. Modulation-doped lasers with long cavities (low threshold gain) exhibit much lower current densities than conventional undoped barrier layers. The lowest density we obtained was 250 A/cm 2 for 1500 five quantum wells. estimated an infinite cavity length 38 A/m /well. This is the value InGaAsP-InGaAsP and...

Abstract Isoprene was dimerised by lithium naphthalene to linear isoprene dimer, a mixture of 2,6‐dimethyl‐2,6‐octadiene and 2,7‐dimethyl‐2,6‐octadiene, in 80% yield.
Thermal spacing control using a heater in magnetic head has been key technology for achieving lower spacing. However, change is nonlinear to the heating power, and relationship between power low region very important clarify. We numerically evaluated focusing on effect of power. The numerical results were verified by comparing with experimental results. By coupling Reynolds equation heater-induced pole-tip protrusion (H-PTP), agreed well Using model, we found H-PTP shape difference due heat...
Precise control of the interface reaction between adsorbates and solid surface is now becoming a key issue for thin film growth technology. In this paper, importance electronic interaction in selective has been demonstrated first time tungsten films. It found that dissociation adsorbed molecules due to electron transfer from substrate plays crucial role realizing selectivity growth.
