Abstract The effects of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) on body composition were investigated. ICR mice fed a control diet containing 5.5% corn oil or CLA‐supplemented (5.0% plus 0.5% CLA). Mice exhibited 57% and 60% lower fat 5% 14% increased lean mass relative to controls ( P <0.05). Total carnitine palmitoyltransferase activity was by dietary CLA supplementation in both pad skeletal muscle; the differences significant for muscle fasted mice. In cultured 3T3‐L1 adipocytes treatment (1×10...
Abstract We investigated the effects of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) preparations, which were enriched for cis ‐9, trans ‐11 CLA isomer or ‐10, ‐12 isomer, on body composition in mice. Body changes (reduced fat, enhanced water, protein, and ash) associated with feeding isomer. In cultured 3T3‐L1 adipocytes, reduced lipoprotein lipase activity, intracellular triacylglycerol glycerol, glycerol release into medium. By contrast, isomers did not affect these biochemical activities. conclude...
Abstract Two experiments were conducted. In Experiment 1, 8‐wk‐old mice fed control diet or supplemented with 0.5% conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) to study the effect of CLA on body composition (CLA: 40.8–41.1% c ‐9, t ‐11 isomer, 43.5–44.9% ‐10, ‐12 isomer). The data for CLA‐fed vs. controls described parallel but significantly distinct responses both absolute and relative changes in fat mass (reduced mice) whole protein water (both which increased mice). mice, appeared precede reduction...
Abstract Background Oral anti-cancer treatments such as adjuvant endocrine therapies (AET) for breast cancer survivors are commonly used but adherence is a challenge. Few low-touch, scalable interventions exist to increase ET adherence. Purpose To evaluate the acceptability, feasibility, and initial efficacy of remotely-delivered values plus AET education intervention (REACH) promote Methods A mixed-methods trial randomized 88 1:1 REACH or Education alone. Wisepill real-time electronic...
Four different methods for methylating conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) were compared. The HCl/MeOH and BF3/MeOH tested under time temperature combinations. Increasing and/or incubation either method decreased the cis-9,trans-11 trans-10,cis-12 isomers, but trans-9,trans-11/trans-10,trans-12 isomers artifacts (allylic methoxide) increased. In addition, triacylglyceride form of CLA was using above NaOMe at various temperatures 20 min. did not generate methoxy artifacts. However, there...
ABSTRACT: Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) has been shown to reduce body fat and increase lean mass in mice, rats, pigs. A recent human trial indicated that CLA may work more effectively if used for prevention of deposition weight gain. To test this hypothesis, we conducted 2 experiments using relatively old mice (older than 6 mo): experiment 1, supplementation during dietary restriction 2, ad libitum feeding followed by restriction. In there were significant effects diet on composition, while...
Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is pervasive among sexually active women and men, Hispanic are at particularly high risk as they have higher rates of invasive cervical cancer compared to other racial or ethnic groups in the United States. There a need for interventions increase HPV vaccination this high-risk population. This study investigated how modify previously developed web-based intervention that provided individually tailored information about improve its use Latino A...
Amphibians provide an unparalleled opportunity to integrate studies of development and evolution through the investigation fossil record larval stages. The pattern vertebral in modern frogs strongly resembles that Paleozoic labyrinthodonts great delay ossification vertebrae, with centra forming much later than neural arches. Slow trunk vertebrae absence tail facilitate rapid loss during metamorphosis, may reflect retention their specific ancestors. Salamanders caecilians ossify at a earlier...
Most of the iron in egg yolk is bound by phosvitin. Heating whole or a double boiler does not release this iron. Also, heating 0.125 mg/ml solution phosvitin distilled water for 20 and 40 min at 110°C did free A second mixed equally with 0.04M citric acid, 2 M NaCl 0.03M Na2 EDTA. Only EDTA released (ca) from without heating.
The internet is an important source of vaccine information for parents. We evaluated and compared the interactive content on expert moderated social media (VSM) website developed parents children 24 months age or younger enrolled in a health care system to random sample interactions extracted from publicly available parenting vaccine-focused blogs discussion forums. study observation period was September 2013 through July 2016. Three hundred sixty-seven eligible websites were located using...
