Abstract Objective: This study aimed to compare the efficacies of intratympanic dexamethasone and methylprednisolone in preventing cisplatin-induced ototoxicity rats. Methods: Experimental groups rats ( n = 8 each) received isotonic saline, intraperitoneal cisplatin dexamethasone, or methylprednisolone. Distortion product otoacoustic emission thresholds were compared on days 0 10 all rats, correlations between drug effects changes cochlear histology evaluated. Results: comparable III IV p...
The purpose of this study was to examine the anti-ototoxic impact Ginkgo biloba extract and lycopene on model cisplatin-induced ototoxicity in rats.Thirty-two Wistar albino rats were examined with distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) test (MADSEN Capella2 ; GN Otometrics, ICS Medical, Chicago USA), they randomly divided into four groups. Group 1 (n=8) defined as healthy control group. Cisplatin given intraperitoneally single dose 12 mg/kg group 2 (n=8), 3 4 (n=8). determined...
Background The etiology and the effects of maxillary accessory ostium (MAO) are not well understood. aim this study is to investigate association between septal deviation (SD) presence an MAO. Methods Paranasal computed tomography (CT) scans 1104 adult patients were studied retrospectively. Patients with chronic sinusitis, acute nasal polyposis, allergic rhinitis, paranasal sinus tumors, perforation, unilateral or bilateral hypoplasia/aplasia, as who had previously surgery a history trauma,...
Objective This study aimed to evaluate the influence of adenotonsillectomy on plasma concentration endothelin‐1 (ET‐1) and C‐reactive protein (CRP) in children with sleep‐disordered breathing (SDB). The relationship between quality life ET‐1 levels was also evaluated. Setting Tertiary referral center. Study Design Before‐and‐after case series. Methods Fasting blood samples for high‐sensitivity CRP were drawn preoperatively all patients at 3 4 months postoperatively. Obstructive Sleep...
To prepare a national guideline for Otorhinolaryngologist who treat allergic rhinitis patients. The study was conducted by three authors, namely the writing support team. The team made plan, determined instructions, chose subgroups including advisory committee, advisors authors and authors. A workshop organized at very beginning to explain details of Advisors took chance meet their coworkers in main headings subheadings guideline, together with After key words were literature search done...
The objective of this study was to investigate the association between upper airway morphology and apnea vs hypopnea predominance in patients with obstructive sleep (OSA) syndrome. A retrospective on consecutively CT scans obtained from 54 OSA 53 non-snoring controls. were measured evaluate surrounding structures' morphologic characteristics. (matched for age, gender body mass index) compared as two groups; apneic group: ratio >50% hypopneic >50%. Morphologic characteristics analyzed using...
This study aims to investigate whether postoperative follow-up period, clinical signs or Minor test is effective determine the incidence of Frey's syndrome following superficial parotidectomy.Between January 2005 and December 2008, 30 patients, (16 males, 14 females; mean age 47.7±15.3 years, range 17 76 years) who underwent parotidectomy in Ear, Nose, Throat Clinic, were retrospectively analyzed. All patients administered a questionnaire on disease Minor's test. The pathological examination...
Crooked or deviated nose is a deviation of the from straight vertical position face. Extensive pneumatization middle turbinate, also called concha bullosa bullous turbinate (BMT) known to be one possible etiologic factors in nasal obstruction, recurrent sinusitis, and headache. There no study concerning link between BMT crooked nose.To investigate association presence BMT.A total 199 patients who underwent open septorhinoplasty were retrospectively analyzed. We present Shewanella algea infection in a chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) patient with cholesteatoma terms of clinical course and treatment. This is the first time S. found as solely pathogen CSOM without history contact seawater Turkey. The admitted to hospital several times complaints otorrhoea, was diagnosed treated. He hospitalized otorhinolaryngology department for further evaluation recurrent infections. according computed tomography scan findings operated cholesteatoma. As...
This study aims to show the effects of nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment on platelet activation in patients with severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS).Forty-six (29 males, 17 females; mean age 48.2±7.6 years; range 40 56 years) OSAS apnea/hypopnea index (AHI) ≥30 were included this study. Complete blood counts analyzed and volume (MPV) values compared before after CPAP at six months. The MPV 8.9±1.3 (p<0.001), while 7.7±1.1 (p<0.001) months OSAS. There was a...
We report auricular hematoma cases caused by mobile phones. A 32-year-old male and a 23-year-old female presented with hematoma, having no significant histories of trauma. The patients underwent simple aspiration. Hematoma re-accumulated in the first case. Incision drainage were performed, then skin was stabilized suturing gauze pad over area. Both recovered without sequelae after treatment. Judging from these cases, we want to postulate that prolonged phone use may cause hematoma.
