Species occurrence records provide the basis for many biodiversity studies. They derive from georeferenced specimens deposited in natural history collections and visual observations, such as those obtained through various mobile applications. Given rapid increase availability of data, control quality accuracy constitutes a particular concern. Automatic filtering is scalable reproducible means to identify potentially problematic tailor datasets public databases Global Biodiversity Information...
Prosthechea jauana has been recognized as an orchid species endemic to the Venezuelan tepui. The first record of P. in Brazil is presented here, also from a tepui Southern phytogeographical district Pantepui Serra do Aracá, at northern border Amazonas state. A detailed morphological description and images specimen are presented, well updated distribution map, preliminary conservation status assessment, taxonomic notes about species. In addition, we provide species' models for based on...
Abstract After a confused taxonomic history, Prosthechea (Laeliinae, Orchidaceae) has been circumscribed in broad sense to include species previously placed Encyclia subg. Osmophytum . However, recent alternative classifications resurrecting old names such as Anacheilium and Hormidium , proposing new genera Euchile Panarica Pollardia Pseudencyclia were presented, splitting into narrower genera. In this study, we provide molecular phylogeny of reassess generic shed light on evolutionary...

Based on morphological evidence found in some specimens recently collected the Diamantina Plateau region, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, a new natural hybrid between Prosthechea calamaria and P. faresiana is described illustrated as ×riopretensis. Both putative parental species are known for region their flowering period overlaps. The nothospecies carries most of features calamaria, such short plants (≤ 19 cm height) inflorescences 7 long), flowers with small ovate lip 1 but floral color...
Background: Epidendrum guttatum A.Rich. & Galeotti, based on specimens collected by Galeotti in Mexico 1840, was predated E. L. and replaced Encyclia guttata Schltr. subsequently superfluous maculosum Ames, F.T.Hubb. C.Schweinf. Questions: The study aimed to show that the concept of Prosthechea recent authors a misinterpretation its type material, resulting application name different, undescribed species. Studied species: (Schltr.) Christenson P. sanchezii Salazar, R.Jiménez T.L.Vieira....
A new species of Koellensteinia from the Brazilian Amazon is described and illustrated. dasilvae C. F. Hall & Barros (Orchidaceae) grows as epiphyte or saxicolous, close to streams in upland forests (terra firme) state Amapá, northern Brazil. The resembles K. hyacinthoides , sharing morphological affinities with this species, but differs by growing inside forests, smaller plant size, leaves petiole, larger inflorescence large peduncle small rachis, labellum, when spread, broader between...
Author Summary: There are three natural radioactive families according to their decay, which are: the uranium series (238U decreasing stable 206Pb), actinium (235U 207Pb) and thorium (236U → 232Th 208Pb). The all have radon gas as an intermediary element, but each with a different atomic mass (222Rn, 219Rn 220Rn). isotopes inert gases at ambient conditions alpha particles emitters. Soils naturally emanate these in variable concentrations depending on composition location. emanation is flow...
ABSTRACT Triphora comprises ca. 19 species, eight of them occurring in Brazil. The genus is currently known Brazil the States Amazonas, Minas Gerais, Pará, Rio Grande do Sul, and São Paulo, as well Distrito Federal. amazonica from Florida, West Indies, Guianas Brazilian State Amazonas. first record T. for Bahia presented, expanding species distribution to Atlantic Forest domain. This Northeastern State.
Prosthechea sessiliflora is a Brazilian endemic orchid species notably poorly represented in biological collections. The type material whereabouts unknown, and the had no further herbarium specimens until very recently. After recent rediscovery of Cerrado domain, deeper morphological evaluation was possible, as well necessary nomenclatural adjustments. Herein, we present an updated description species, together with composite digital plate highlighting its morphology, perform...
In the present paper we provide lectotypifications for names Prosthechea bohnkiana, P. carrii, and elisae, epitypes first two. These typifications were necessary due to gross disagreement between available specimens data provided by authors in protologues of these names.
