This work reviews the effects of z-Pins used in composite laminates as through-the-thickness reinforcement to increase composite’s properties out-of-plane direction. The paper presents manufacture and microstructure this type while also incorporating impact on mechanical composite. Mechanical include tensile, compression, flexure static, dynamic fatigue loads. Additionally, mode I II both static loading are presented, well hygrothermal, compression after properties.
Purpose Utilizing through-the-thickness pin reinforcement in metal-to-composite joints can significantly increase the joint mechanical properties, enabling introduction to a whole new field of applications joining technology. However, with rise advanced manufacturing techniques – such as additive layer manufacturing, little research has been performed on shape optimization and its behavior. The paper aims discuss this issue. Design/methodology/approach In study, numerical algorithm is used...
